Water Culture of India. Due to number of unique properties, water plays most important role in maintaining the life on Earth.Origin/creation of life, development of species and incarnations started in water. In India,Saints used to live in the vicinity of water,in temples and ashrams. Civilizations and settlements took place on the banks of rivers. In India ,water bodies are considered sacred. In Indian culture ,mythology and traditions, water is considered very important because of its usefulness in number of ways as mentioned in Vedas,Puranas,Upanishads and other epics.Rivers have been the centers of textile, music, literature, romance, art, dance, architecture, epics, intellect, history etc. Therefore in Indian Spirituality,Religion,Mythology,Culture and Traditions,"water ethics" has been discussed at length. It helps in planning and managing the water resources so that water is conserved and used in proper ways.

Aaroh Tamso Jyoti-May we rise from darkness to light, i.e. from ignorance to knowledge-the motto of Centre of Excellence, Government College, Sanjauli, Shimla-6 Compels one to halt at its portals and ruminate on the value-oriented education being imparted by this premier institution of Shimla. The College enjoys the distinct position of not only being the first Degree College to have been set up in Shimla in July 1, 1969 but also the first college to have been conferred with the status of Centre of Excellence in 2006. Its ideal locale with lush green cedars and oaks add to the ambience required for chiseling the personality of youngsters who are yet to carve a niche for themselves in the competitive world. Situated at a distance of about 2kms from The Ridge, it is easily accessible from Sanjauli, Lakkar Bazaar and Circular Road. The institute takes pride in its rich history and heritage. The imposing Structure of the main building, currently housing Administrative Block and Computer Laboratories reminds one of the days of Yore, when the jungle of concrete buildings had not defaced the Queen of Hills.
