Welcome to Prairie Hill

Welcome Visitors Welcome to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. We are a loving and

welcoming family of faith, excited about what God has done and continues to do for us. We rejoice that you have chosen to worship with us. This bulle-

tin along with the screen in the front of the sanctuary will guide worship. The page numbers for the service refer to the front of the red hymnals in

the pew. You will find hymns in the back of the same hymnal. The * indicates where you are invited to stand. We desire and encourage children to partici-pate in our worship, but just in case, a cry room and a bathroom are located near the church entrance. If you have any questions about our church fam-

ily, membership, or interested in conversation with Pastor Kyle, call the church office at 979-836-8666.

Statement of Faith St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill is a congregation of people who love Jesus and are passionate about God’s Kingdom. We are firmly rooted in the

Lutheran “flavor” of Christianity, with a strong emphasis on the power of God’s grace.

Season of the Church Year: Time After Pentecost + Liturgical Color: Green The Sanctuary colors serve to adorn the worship space, and to call attention to the nature of the season or festival being celebrated. Green is used, to in-dicate our growth in faith as we follow the teachings and ministry of Christ.

Worship Times Sundays: 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Sunday School: 9 a.m.

Office Hours Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We encourage you take this bulletin home, pray the prayer list, note dates, and reflect of the scripture readings.

“A Place to Call Home”

7The teaching of the LORD is perfect and revives the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure and gives wisdom to the simple. 8The statutes of the LORD are just and rejoice the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear and gives light to the eyes. 9The fear of the LORD is clean and endures forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10More to be desired are they than gold, more than much fine gold, sweeter far than honey, than honey in the comb. 11By them also is your servant enlightened, and in keeping them there is great reward. 12Who can detect one's own offenses? Cleanse me from my secret faults.

18th Sunday after Pentecost 4 September 27, 2015

13Above all, keep your servant from presumptuous sins; let them not get dominion over me; then shall I be whole and sound, and innocent of a great offense. 14Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my strength and my redeemer.

Via de Cristo (The Way of Christ)

You are invited to experience “a personal spiritual renewal” by attending a three day

weekend at a retreat center. The teaching is led by Lutheran laity and pastors. At

a Via de Cristo weekend, you will:

Hear presentations about 20 minutes in length (9 by lay persons, 5 by clergy)

Discuss the presentation in small groups

Worship daily with Holy Communion

Eat delicious meals and sing songs

Become much more “tuned-in” to the “Grace of God”.

Upcoming weekends this fall:

October 15‐18 at Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville, Texas October 29 - November 1 at Camp Lutherhill in LaGrange, Texas

All weekends are a coed experience for men, women, singles, couples or groups

Methodists call their experience an Emmaus Walk, Roman Catholics call theirs

A.C.T.S and Episcopalians use the term Cursillo. All are wonderful weekend events

which will help in your spiritual walk with the Lord – Via de Cristo! The Texas Lut-

heran Via de Cristo website, www.txluviadecristo.org, has additional information.

Please contact Sandy Ordner for more information.

ATTENTION ALL: WE HAVE NO USHERS FOR THE 10:05AM SERVICE IN

OCTOBER. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT

PLEASE LET ONE OF THE COUNCIL MEMBERS KNOW.

“Weekly Word” A new bible study is coming October 6th! Join Pastor

Kyle Tuesday mornings at 9:30am in the church annex. We will be looking at the upcoming Sunday’s scripture

readings each week. Everyone is invited!
