I have been spending a lot of time in classrooms across the school lately and it has been a real treat to see students working hard and engaged in some fabulous programs. I have also spent a lot of extra time doing yard duty and find my interactions across the student population to be a highlight of my day. Communication at all levels is such a strong focus and it is great to see the playground communication boards being used by staff and students. I also really enjoy Intensive Interaction with our students who are at the pre-intentional stage of communication. It is such a great feeling when one of our non-verbal students engages in a turn taking “conversation” with you. You will see elsewhere in this newsletter an opportunity to attend an information session regarding NDIS. I would like you to know that Kim Lipari is also organising sessions, which will be held here at school. She is planning an afternoon, one starting at 2pm so parents who pick up their children can come a bit earlier and hear what the speaker has to say and another evening session for our parents and carers who work. The details of these sessions may be in the next newsletter or on a separate notice so please keep an eye on your communication books. We will need an expression of interest as if we do not have enough interest we will have to cut it down to just one session. Y ou name it and we’ve got it!!!! Staff and students are all struggling with health issues at this time

of year. We have cases of gastro, vomiting, coughs and colds that just will not go away. I want to

take this opportunity to thank parents and carers who come to school to pick up sick children. When

Parent Opinion Survey 2017 WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual

survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected

parents at each school.

It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate,

student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey

results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey

can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period

from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August.

Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey

are anonymous.

The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi.

Survey language guides will be provided in a range of languages including Albanian, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Dari, Filipino, Greek, Gujarati, Indonesian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Pashto, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish or Urdu.

The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September.

Dandy Valley was a hive of activity on Design, Creativity and Technology Day. Classes decided

on a project and then set to work on creating it. The students designed the project and then

put the various materials together to create some very interesting constructions.

There was a display of the some of our resources and many classes came to explore these.

On Sunday 17th December we are once again hosting the largest, FREE,

Christmas Party for Special Children. This is our 22nd year Anniversary and

it will run from 9.30am until 1.30pm at Moonee Valley Racecourse.

A 4 hour stage show featuring many artists will keep the children

entertained. There will be activities such as merry go-rounds, jumping cas-

tles, face painting and much more. With all this fun to be had, they will

need all the food, drinks, and ice creams, which we will provide for free. Of

course no Christmas party is complete without Santa and after his arrival

the toy room will be open each child will receive two beautiful presents.
