Good morning everyone!

We hope you had a lovely day yester-day and enjoyed being outdoors in the warm sunshine. If you didn’t get around to doing your science experiment yes-terday, today is going to be another sunny day and you might enjoy doing it outdoors.

We’re sure you are enjoying working with big numbers in maths, so we know you’ll have fun with today’s activity.

Have a wonderful day!

Today we’d like you to use your imaginations to think of how an everyday object could be transformed and become part of your own made up story. Click on this link to first watch “Something Fishy”. Now choose an every day object in your home eg. a watering can, a Lego model (let your imagination run wild!) and start planning your story. You may like to use the planning sheet on page 4. On page 5 is an example of our story.

Remember your story will have a beginning, where we are introduced to the main character/s, don’t forget to describe them! The middle part of the story will involve you describing your everyday object and how your character is involved with it. It will also include what problem your character may experience. The middle part is usually the longest bit and has all the ’action’ in it usually involving a problem for your main characters to overcome. The ending will consist of how the problem was solved and what might happen next to your character.

Tomorrow you will write up the story using your plan from today to help you.

Place value within 100

Today we are going to continue to think about the tens and ones places in 2-digit numbers.

We will first use our place value language before going on to partitioning whole amounts into

their tens and ones places.

Activity:

Look at the following 2-digit numbers and then complete the following sentence for each num-

ber.

For example, 73 = 7 tens and 3 ones. Now complete this same sentence for the following

numbers:

70 36 64 81 22 66 49

Turn to page 2 to complete the part-part whole models and addition number sentences

below each one.

Helicopter!

Adam, a curious brown haired boy. His small, fluffy dog called Jake who barks at postal work-ers. Adam loves flying machines and wants to be a pilot when he grows up.

Digging behind the plastic containers in his mother’s kitchen cupboard he finds a colander. He adds cardboard helicopter blades and puts it on his head.

Suddenly he hears the sound of an engine whirring and the blades start turning. He rises high into the air above his village. He sees a kitten stuck in a tree. He directs himself to-wards the tree to rescue the kitten but the helicopter blades get stuck in the tree. Now what can he do?

Ending Sam the brave firefighter is driving past in the fire engine, sees Adam and the kitten stuck in an old Chestnut tree.

Science

This week we want you to think about how trees and plants breathe. On page 6 is a simple experiment for you to carry out. It helps to explain how after using the sun to create food/energy (a process called photosynthesis) the leaf ‘breathes out’ the oxygen that it doesn’t need.

Please also keep your plant diaries up to date and add to your results box of ‘What Plants Need’ experiment.

P.E.

Can you remember the different rolls we did in gym? Clear a space on the carpet or other soft surface and see if you are still able to do theses rolls?

Art

Following the learning we did about Vincent Van Gough at the start

of this term we thought we would end it with another Van Gough

inspired piece. Find a plant or flower you really like the look of,

either during a walk or in your garden. Take a look at his Irises

piece painted in 1889. We think that any type

of paint, pencils or pastels will look great in

this style. This painting almost looks dream-

like so have a go and see if you can recreate

this piece with a plant of your choice. We also

Music

In music this week we are going to com-bine our learning about plants, with a bit of drumming and movement! Ask an adult to type 'parts of a plant song Harry Kinder' into YouTube. Find some sauce-pans and a wooden spoon. This is your drum kit! Listen to the song and play a beat on your 'instruments' in time with the music. Have a go at singing along with the words. When the song reaches about 1 minute 30 seconds into the song, get ready to stand up and join in with the growing plant actions.

Have fun!

Thoughtful:

This week our themes are: being satisfied; purposes in life

This week have a think and chat about what we see as being the purpose of life and

how each one of us plays an important part and role in life. Think about what really sat-

isfies you and brings you joy and fulfilment in life. Did you list people or possessions? If

you did list some possessions which one is your most valuable possession?
