In 2015-16, the Irish government and hundreds of institutions around the world will be part of a centenary remembrance of the Easter Rising of 1916. The Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library invite you to become a part of this important legacy.

One hundred years ago a small group of poets, teachers, and labor leaders rebelled against foreign rule in Dublin’s early morning light. Their six-day siege of the now Irish capital captivated the world and inspired the fight for independence which would eventually establish the Irish Free State and Republic.

As an outpost of Ireland’s international 1916 commemoration, the Irish Cultural Center and McClelland

Library are presenting a full year of programming surrounding the commemoration. Programming will examine the causes and aftermath of the Easter Rising through: nationally respected guest lecturers examining history and cultural legacy, book discussions encouraging close examination of causes, a multi-media presentation during Easter week, film series, and a world class exhibit providing a visual history of the Rising andits role in the development of modern Ireland.
