1969 Anniversary ReunionGraham Powell (WS 1962-1969), organiser of the 1969 reunion,

reports here on a very enjoyable weekend.

With much trepidation, forty formerstudents whom attended WarwickSchool between 1962 and 1969revisited Warwick for a 'Forty YearOn' Reunion on 20 June 2009. Our doubts and concerns soonevaporated once our 58 year oldselves realised that we were still 18 years old at heart. The ease withwhich conversation flowed aroundpast recollections, intervening triumphs and tribulations and future

hopes, indicated just how much warmth and fellow feeling the group feltfor each other. Many had travelled a good distance to be present.Attendance by four former teachers – Ken Freeborn, Geoff Lane, RogerMitchell and Mervyn Riches – added a welcome dimension to the day.

David Shakespeare and Peter Jinman

The class of ‘69 and the Head Master

Find out about social and professional networking events for Old Warwickians over the coming months. From drinks receptions to formal dinners and from London to Hong Kong, there are many events for OWs to enjoy.

The weekend included a most interesting visit to the school. It wasdifficult to remember exactly where some of the familiar buildings of the 1960s had been and it was astonishing to see just how wellresourced the school has become. Afternoon tea with the HeadMaster – overseen by the portrait of our former headmaster –reminded us of those things that don't change. Regular andrestrained imbibitions – as befits our age – enabled morereminiscences to flow through the evening that culminated in adinner at The Lord Leycester Hotel. Donald Agnew provided aperfectly judged after dinner speech to which Ken Freebornresponded with words that genuinely moved his audience. MichaelPoultney led us in a rendition of the school song, which we allthought we had erased from our memory banks.

We returned to the lives we lead with promises to keep in touch anddo it again one day. We will try not to leave it another forty years.Altiora Peto.

Tadmarton Heath Meeting Tue 19 May 2009

Julian Marcus reports that a great day was enjoyed by all, with 14 OWsmaking it to Tadmarton Heath for coffee and a morning’s very socialgolf – Edinburgh foursomes for the Gracie Tankards. The afternoonsaw another OW join us to make for five 3-balls and increase thecompetition for the much coveted Langley Trophy.

The weather did its best to provide additional harassment for some ofthe day, but it did little to dampen the camaraderie and friendship - the most common and enduring feature of any OW golf day.

Gracie Tankard Results So often many good pairings (well pairings on paper anyway!) try hard but fail to achieve.

However, with the truly commendable score of 35 pts, Chris Kaye and John Ayres prevailed as winners. Congratulations to both Chrisand John but especially to Chris who successfully defended his crownfrom last year and retains his tankard for yet another year.

Runners up, on 34 pts, were Brian Woodham and Edwin Langdale.

The highly coveted prizes were two Nike golf balls for each of thewinners and a single ball to the runners up. Ah well!

Langley Trophy ResultsAn individual stableford, played off 7/8 handicap in the afternoon, should have provided for tight competition and it did not disappoint.Though the range of scores was indeed quite wide, the records showthat in third place, on 29 pts, was our Captain – Duncan Rotherham.Well done Captain.

Second place, on back 9 count back, went to Chris (I don’t know if I can carry all my golf balls home) Kaye again with 30 pts.

And in first place, a lightly raced individual with a truly wonderful 30 pts in tough playing conditions – Mr Mike Barnwell – a delightedand humble winner.

The prizes were similarly high quality. Three balls to the winner, two forsecond and a single ball to third – all signed by Tiger himself!
