1946 – creating the spacious Middle Urals Reserve „Visim“ with a total area
of 55,000 ha.
1951 – functioning the Reserve was stopped.
1971 – restoring the Visimskiy Reserve with a total area of 9,500 ha.
2001 – Visimskiy Reserve’s area was extended up to 33,508 ha.
2001 – according to UNESCO decision the Reserve has received the status
of a BR.
Visimskiy Biosphere Reserve is one of
the most studied natural areas with
typical and unique ecosystems of
south taiga Middle Ural low-hill terrain
and it is a sample area of the Middle
Urals.
During last three years the number
of publications and mass media
involvement has multiply increased
adding to the positive image of the
Reserve.
Reserve core area – 33,500 ha
Reserve protection area –
46,100 ha.
Since 2013 a regular
background snow monitoring
in Visimskiy BR has been
resumed.
In 2012 a social research project was carried
out. Its subject was “Evaluation and analysis of
Visimskiy BR attraction for the Sverdlovsk
region population in developing of eco-
educational activities and educational tourism
carried out on the territory of the BR and its
protection area”.
In 2014 a development concept for
Visimskiy BR was elaborated.
During the period from 2011 to
2013 the number of lectures’
attendees doubled, this was
related to the new staffing policy
and creation of a full-fledged
eco-educational and tourism
department.
Since 2012 Visimskiy BR has been
actively use help of volunteers. The
number of volunteers was increased up to
120 persons. Over these three years a
cooperation with volunteers has become a
good tradition.
Since 2011 a number
and expanse of security checks was increased by 3
times, which immediately improved efficiency of the
Visimskiy BR protection regime.
The Visimskiy BR has been
successfully implemented the
alternative energy resources in its
activities for over two years, even
under harsh winter conditions.
The Visimskiy BR has developed an App called
Eco-Tourism for android and iphone, which
included the information on regional natural
parks, as well.
In Visimskiy BR:
Flora:
tracheophytes – 466 (3 of them are
included in Russian Red Data Book),
bryophytic – 147, lichen – 234 (3 of them
are included in Russian Red Data Book),
mushrooms – 950 (2 of them are included
Russian Red Data Book).
Fauna:
48 species of mammals, 185 species of
birds (golden eagle and Eurasian eagle-
owl among them are included in Russian
Red Data Book), 4 species of amphibians,
4 species of reptiles. there are over 2254
identified species of invertebrates
(Parnassius Apollo and Parnassius
Mnemosyne among them are included
into Russian Red Data Book).
