ganizalions, the INDIANETTES, is a pep

squad to keep the spectators happy

during the half time as well as furnish­

ing the cheerleaders with vocal support

during the game. During the pas! two

seasons they have combined forces

more colorful routines on the football

GENERAL LAUDS MILITARY DEPT.

Friday was informal inspection day lor NJC's Military department. Brig. Gen. John Weckerling, chieJ oj the Lou· isiana Military District, arrived early to observe the military training program a1 the college.

General Weckerling was particular­ly impressed by the campus interest in the cadet corps. "The ROTC will succeed here beca use of its support by the lacuIty and student body," he said.

An honor guard, composed of cadets Irom the second pJa100n 01 Compony A, received the General as he arrived on the campus. The inspecting officer was a ssisted by Ma i. Neill A. Yar· brough and two non-commissioned officers.

Following the noon drill performa nce of the battalion, under the comma nd of Cadet MaL Rex E. Pensinger, General Weckerling told cadet ollicers , "It is a real pleasure to visil a unit like yours which reilects such fine spirit and inter­est in the ROTC program."

The inspecting officers praised the excellent condition of the armory a nd supply room, and commended the en· thusiasm shown by the first and sec· ond year cadets in their class work.

Nominees were sub mitted by every interested organization on the campus at the invita tion of the Chacohoula sta ff. Se vera l clubs combine d their vo ting strength to su pport the same candidate. The effectiv eness of their m ove became increasingly obvious as ballots were • coun ted.

Interest in the choice of Miss NJC moun ted quickl y a s the da y for voling drew to a close. Last m inute ballo ts were cast, a nd the election commis­sioners adjourned for a two-ho ur ses­sion with 1000 crossmarks .

Many of the no minees were defeat­ed by a n extremel y narrow markin, as beau ty was a ra ther common a tl ribute a mong the cand idates .
