Advantages of having a landline phoneIn emergency situations, making or receiving phone calls is critical. That’s why it’s important to remember the safety advantages of a landline phone in situations like these: ·Someone tries to call you in the middle of the night with an urgent message. It could be your child at a sleepover who’s scared and wants to come home, or a family member saying you need to come to the hospital immediately. If you only have a cell phone and it’s on vibrate, you might not wake up, missing the emergency call. The sound of a landline phone ringing, however, gets attention. ·Your child needs to call 911 but can’t find the cell phone or its battery is dead. A landline phone provides the safety advantage of staying in one place in the home and not needing batteries, so your child can always make the call. ·A health emergency prevents the caller from speaking. Let’s say your aging parent is disoriented or in pain and isn’t able to clearly communicate to the 911 operator. With a landline phone, the exact location is instantly available to emergency personnel.

Don’t click that link! There’s a fishy text message that might be showing up on your phone, trying to lure you in. If you take the bait, experts say, you need to watch out. The bait appeals to some of your most basic instincts. The text says someone complimented you, but tech experts are warning you to leave it alone. You may have gotten one of these texts, saying you have a compliment waiting for you. But you don’t know who it’s from. So what do you do?“Just ignore them,” says NDSU Student who has received scam texts before, Kenneth Channele.“I’ve gotten a text message and I haven’t responded,” says Bucky Skiple, who has gotten scam text and calls before.Tech expert, James Beck says these two are doing exactly what they should. But when it comes to this latest text message popping up on phones, he says, whatever you do, do not click on the link.“Whatever that takes you to, probably installs something and you would have to click to find out what it is, it’s not going to be good,” says Epic Technologies Owner, James Beck. And he’s right. Despite his best advice, we wanted an answer. So we followed the link. It brought us to an app store. We were then told to install the ‘In Real Life’ app. And when we agreed to it, it wanted to know where we are and even wanted a picture. “Whatever you’re installing, there’s probably some kind of junkware. Either it’s going to spy on you or install some kind of advertisements that is going to show pop-ups all the time. Or worst case scenario, do something that will take over your whole phone,” says Beck. Now, this text isn’t coming from just one number but multiple different ones from different states. We tried calling each one, but didn’t have much luck. Beck tells us that also makes it hard to block any of these numbers.“Blocking the numbers would be a waste of time in my opinion,” says Beck. So we did some extra research and found the ‘In Real Life’ app is real. But reviews online say once you share your contacts, it uploads everything from your phone into their system. The app’s website goes into detail about why you might be receiving one of these texts. It says it happens if you were nominated by a friend, invited to the app by a friend, or someone who had your phone number added you as a friend in the app. The website also says, if you text back ‘no,’ they will stop contacting you.

Have you recently upgraded your Internet speed and still have issues with devices connecting to the Internet or aren’t able to connect to the Internet everywhere in your home? If yes, then it might be time to upgrade to a new router or GBT’s Managed Wi-Fi solution. Just like most devices, routers continue to be improved and upgraded year after year. The first standard of Wi-Fi had 802.11B technology in them. Over the years, Wi-Fi has gone through B, G, N, AC, and now the newest version being 802.11AX. These upgrades have allowed for routers to process faster speed throughputs and allow for more devices to connect at the same time. The newer upgrades have also improved wireless coverage. With homes increasing the number of devices needing Internet connectivity and needing access in every nook and cranny of the home, it is important to have a router or access points that will provide this level of performance. It is also important to know if you’re having issues, even the best router in the world will not speed up an old computer or old device that may only be built with B or G technology in it. If you’re having issues with your devices staying connected or want better wireless coverage throughout your home, give us a call. With options to fit any home or business wireless needs, we want you to have a positive Internet experience!

Upgrading your Internet Speed? Don’t forget about your Router!
