  • PRESIDENT GEORGE T. WALKER

  • Northeast Louisiana State College is our world.

The Administration is the planetary system for our

world. Around it revolves a college, growing

from a junior institution since its opening

in 1931 to senior stature in 1950.

With the rise in status has been a corresponding ex

pansion of physical facilities, curricula, faculty,

and enrollment. Throughout the various changes the

Administration has maintained the element of

tradition in our soci~ty, of the practical con

siderations of earning a college diploma.

Interposed between students and Administration is

the leader, President George Thomas Walker, an

educator who holds our respect and confidence,

    guiding our world.

  • The Administrative staff is an integral part of the college. Their interest in students and every phase of the institution is reflected in vIsion, efficiency and friendliness, which combine to stimulate expansion of Northeast and make the campus a pleasant place in which to work and play.

Directing a college, which is rapidly expanding in academic and other areas of service, has proved a fine challenge to officials. Their management and guidance have extended in an attempt to assist students not only in Northeast Louisiana but also in other states and countries.

  • Student Council

The Student Council's duty of governing activities of the Northeast State student body calls for a never-ending schedule of planning and work. Members of the council are kept busy 'Preparing a student activity program to match the rapid growth of the college. Much of this work is done behind the scene, for any activity large enough for the entire student body calls for a grea t deal of planning, committee functioning, and taking care of minor details before ideas can be materialized.

The past year was a busy one for the Student Council and included the development of a new constitution that meant reorganization of the governing body. Included in the schedule for the yea r were such annual activities as Orphans's Day, Northeast Beauty Pageant, Dixie Ball, Redskins on Parade and a variety of other features.

The council supports or presents many of the trad itional campus activities and also produces a continuous program of other events for the benefit of the campus body of NOrlheast State.

LEW HARTZOG, Gulf States Conference Coach of the Year in 1958, 1959 and 1960, guided the Northeast trackmen this spring to the finest record ever compiled by an Indian athletic team.

The Indian thinclads were unbeaten in 14 regular season meets against the foremost teams in the South. Under Hartzog's leadership, several individual stars gained even more national recognition in post-season competition.

Hartzog, whose three-year tenure here showed two conference championship teams and a thirdplace club, resigned in July to take a position as track coach at Southern Illinois University.
