But even with the Austrians beginning to pick up the pieces after a rather shaky start to the season "the strength in World Cup Downhill" believes Ritchie, "still lies with the Canadian team."

Said Ritchie, "The Austrians seem to be getting good results now- but nobody is s h a c k c d n u t of their minds because of that. The people in Europe have come to expect those sorts of resul ts from a team as traditionally powerful as the Austrians."

Ritchie. is not overjy worried about the less than spectacular results the Canadians have ob- tained in the last two races.

At Kitzbuhel. Steve Pod- borski had the fastest Canadian time placing elghth wi th Ken Read 141100th of a second behind h im at tenth spot.

"You have to look at those kinds of results in perspective," said Ritchie. "A few years ago, two Canadians in the lop ten in a World Cup Downhill would have been cahse for celebration.

"Now. if our guys place a l i t - tle bit back in the pack, it's seen as a poor result.
