The Ohio Geological Society World Wide Web Site has finally received an update. The Universal ResourceLocator (URL) for the site is:

http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/odnr/geosurvey/ohgeosoc/ohgeosoc.htm

The web site has new pages on CONTACTS & OFFICERS, UPCOMING MEETINGS, and MEMBERSHIPINFORMATION. In the future, the newsletter will be online. The LIST OF SOCIETY PUBLICATIONS pagehas been updated to include the latest OGS Symposium from November 1997. The UPCOMING MEET-INGS page contains the schedule of all the upcoming meetings for this year. The MEMBERSHIP INFOR-MATION page has a downloadable membership form. You can even fill out the form on the computer andthen print it out. Please check it out your society's new and improved home page.

The Eastern Section-AAPG Meeting Web Site has also been updated. The site URL is:

Seneca Caverns H EL-P!!!On Friday, September 11th the OGS sponsoredfield trip to Seneca Caverns near Bellevue, Ohiowas attended by 11 OGS members. We weretreated to a great tour of an ecosystem formed bya groundwater system in this area. The highlightof the trip was when Dick Bell, owner of SenecaCaverns, and an OGS member, told some of ourmembers to watch out for Ole Mist'ry Riverwhich flows through the caverns at 110 feetbelow the surface. It was so clear and cool thatthere were some wet feet!

OGS is looking for a volunteerto be on the AAPG Membership

Committee.

PETROLEUM SEISMOLOGY IN THE DIGITAL AGEThis one-day course features lecture topics on many aspects ofpetroleum exploration through the use of seismic data. Over thepast five years many advancements in seismic acquisition, pro-cessing, and interpretation have changed the way a geoscientistfinds oil and gas. Each seismic exploration process will be pre-sented in short lecture periods by the feature lecturer, Bob Hardage,Senior Research Scientist a t the Burea u of Economic Geology, Aus-tin, Texas. Special emphasis will be placed on the workstation en-vironment and the advantages of using computers to aid in seismicinterpretation. Examples of 2D and 3D seismic case histories willbe shown. In addition, a regional2D seismic line will be processed"live" throughout the day. Incremental steps in the process willbe reviewed and discussed in an open forum. Numerous on-sitePC workstations, with instructors, will be available for hands-oninterpretation experience. Learning centers for the latest field seis-mic acquisition equipment also will be on-site. Course participantswill be eligible for 0.8 Continuing Education Units (CEU).

Bob A. Hardage is a Senior Research Scientist at the Bureau ofEconomic Geology and Lead Scientist for the Exploration Geo-physics Laboratory. He received a Ph.D. in physics from Okla-homa State University after completing a NASA-sponsored

investigation of micrometeorite impact on space vehicles. He be-gan work for Phillips Petroleum Company in 1966 and concen-trated on geophysical modeling, seismic imaging, seismicstratigraphy, vertical seismic profiling, and exploration manage-ment. After serving as Exploration Manager.Asia and LatinAmerica, he left Phillips in 1988 to join Western Atlas International,Inc., where he was Vice President of Geophysical Developmentand Marketing for Atlas Wireline Services until 1991. Dr. Hardagehas authored over 60 technical papers, taught numerous publiccourses on 3D seismic technology, seismic stratigraphy, and verti-calseismic profiling in the U.5., Europe, and Asia, and conductedseveral internal, continuing ed uca tion courses for individ ual com-panies. More than 3,500 copies of his book, Vertical Seismic Profil-ing, have been purchased by explorationists, and the book is in itsthird printing. He has also written a second book, Seismic Stratig-raphy, prepared chapters in AAPG Memoir 39 - Seismic Stratigra-phy II, the SEG book Reservoir Geophysics, and the combinedAAPG-SEG publication 3D Seismic Atlas; and published a thirdbook, Crosswell Seismology and Reverse VSP. He is a past Editor ofGeophysics. His current interest is the development of multicom-ponent seismic technology for improved characterization of res-ervoir systems.
