4 19th November - World Day of the Poor H.H. Pope Francis has declared 19th of November as World Day of the Poor, that Sunday we will have a Holy Hour in St. James’ from 8.00-9.00p.m. to pray for the alleviation of all kinds of human poverty. As you know, in both churches, we have boxes at the back of the church where we collect non-perishable foodstuffs for those who are needy in our own com- munities, perhaps we can make a concerted effort to bring in foodstuffs on, or before, that Sunday , food which can then be distributed from local foodbanks. I would also like to remind you that at the beginning of December, the Franciscans of the Renewal will be joining us from Bradford where they are based in a parish. They work in areas of deprivation and host a soup kitchen on their premises. Perhaps we could also collect non-perishable food items to pass on to them, so that after their Mission here in our parish, they can take those items to help the hungry and needy in Bradford. If anyone has any other ideas of how we could mark this World Day for the Poor, and how we could give practical help to the needy, I would be very grateful if you would speak to me. God bless, Fr. Martin Prayers for the Holy Souls in Purgatory Prayer of St. Gertrude: Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Prayer for the Faithful Departed O Most compassionate Jesus, have mercy on the Souls detained in Purgatory, for whose redemption Thou didst take upon Thyself our nature and endure a bitter death. 19th November - World Day of the Poor

H.H. Pope Francis has declared 19th of November as World Day of the Poor, that Sunday

we will have a Holy Hour in St. James’ from 8.00-9.00p.m. to pray for the alleviation of all

kinds of human poverty. As you know, in both churches, we have boxes at the back of the

church where we collect non-perishable foodstuffs for those who are needy in our own com-

munities, perhaps we can make a concerted effort to bring in foodstuffs on, or before, that

Sunday , food which can then be distributed from local foodbanks.

I would also like to remind you that at the beginning of December, the Franciscans of the

Renewal will be joining us from Bradford where they are based in a parish. They work in

areas of deprivation and host a soup kitchen on their premises. Perhaps we could also collect

non-perishable food items to pass on to them, so that after their Mission here in our parish,

they can take those items to help the hungry and needy in Bradford.

If anyone has any other ideas of how we could mark this World Day for the Poor, and how we could give practical

help to the needy, I would be very grateful if you would speak to me. God bless, Fr. Martin

Prayers for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Prayer of St. Gertrude:

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

MOST loving Jesus, I humbly beseech Thee, that Thou Thyself wouldst offer to Thine eternal Father in behalf of the Holy Souls in Purgatory, the Most Precious Blood which poured forth from the sacred Wounds of Thine adorable Body, together with Thine agony and death. And do thou likewise, O sorrowful Virgin Mary, present unto Him, together with the dolorous Passion of thy dear Son, thine own sighs and tears, and all the sorrows thou didst suffer in His suffering, in order that, through the merits of the same, refreshment may be granted to the Souls now suffering in the fiery torments of Purgatory, so that, being delivered from that painful prison, they may be clothed with glory in Heaven, there to

sing the mercies of God for ever and ever. Amen.

******* Absolve, O Lord, the Souls of all the faithful departed from every bond of sin, that with Thy gracious

assistance they may deserve to escape the judgment of vengeance and enjoy the blessedness of everlasting light.

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. *******

Prayer for Deceased Parents

O God, Who hast commanded us to honor our father and our mother, in Thy mercy have pity on the souls of my father and mother, and forgive them their trespasses, and make me to see

them again in the joy of everlasting brightness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Faithful Departed

O Most compassionate Jesus, have mercy on the Souls detained in

Purgatory, for whose redemption Thou didst take upon Thyself our nature and endure a bitter death. Mercifully hear their sighs, look with pity upon the tears which they now shed before Thee, and by

virtue of Thy Passion, release them from the pains due to their sins. O most merciful Jesus, let Thy Precious Blood reach down into

Purgatory and refresh and revive the captive souls who suffer there. Stretch out to them Thy strong right hand, and bring them forth into the place of refreshment, light and

peace. Amen.

A reading from the prophet Malachi 1,14b-2,2b.8-10

But you have strayed from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your teaching.

Psalm 130

Response: Guard my soul in peace before you, O Lord.

A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians 2.7b-9,13

We used to work, slaving day and night so as not to be a burden on anyone of you while we were proclaiming God’s Good News to you.

Alleluia, alleluia!

You have only one Father, and he is in heaven;

you have only one Teacher, the Christ!

Alleluia!

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 23:1-12

They do not practise what they preach.

This Sunday’s Readings from the Sacred Scriptures:

Please remember in your prayers:

The sick and housebound, especially: John Namyslo, John McNeely, Thomas MacPherson, Margaret Seymour, Electra Dallas, Mary Hamill, Matthew Edgson, Naomi & Andrew Carter, Jeanine Candy, Robert & Sylvia Peck, Denis Donovan, Neil, Patricia McKee, Sonny McAvoy, Ian Hazlett, Margaret Burns, Ann Lauraites, Stephen, Thomas Adamson, Bill Kerr, and Agnes Kenny. May God grant them His healing and strength. We also remember in our prayers our beloved dead, especially those who have died recently: Jim Campbell, Jim Scullion, Paddy O’Sullivan, John McGhee, Gladys Anderson, Elizabeth Walker, Alan Thomas, Walter Sharrocks, Ranald Bain, Rev. Ian Gordon, Lucy Hoodles, Robert Meechan, and those whose anniversaries occur around this time: Bridget Garrett, James Ward, Catherine Kenny, Patrick Hampsey (jnr.), Ernest Gowland, Bernard Sherry, Isobel Easton (Sherry), James Easton, Richard Scott, and Andrew Carragher. We pray, too, for all on our November Lists and all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Meeting about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul

For those who are interested, I would like to hold a meeting about how we can move forward with establishing a Conference of the SSVP in our Parish. I propose that we hold a meeting for all interested on Tuesday 28th November at 8.00p.m. in St. James’ Church Hall. The meeting should last no longer than one hour. If you have any interest at all, please come along.

Mass Times Survey, etc.

The recent survey carried out to assess feelings about Mass times and potential changes has basically resulted in a ‘stalemate’ with regard to the Sunday morning Mass times, i.e. most people in Kinross want to leave things are they are, and most people in Auchtermuchty would like to change. It would seem sensible, then, to keep the status quo, and continue to persevere and make the best of the present situation, maintaining sensitivity to the pastoral needs of the smaller community of St. Matthew’s, who rightly deserve to have a legitimate share in the activities taking place in the two churches. It is for this reason, after consultation with the Parish Pastoral Council, that I have decided, for this year to celebrate the Christmas Vigil Mass in St. Matthew’s, Auchtermuchty, at 8.30p.m., preceded by Carols (further details will be brought to your attention soon).

As regards the weekly 7.00p.m. Vigil Mass in Kinross, the majority of people would like to change the Mass time to 6.00p.m. - 22 people voted for 6.00p.m., and 10 people voted for 7.00p.m. I will now need to consult the Bishop to see what he feels about this, and, if there is to be any change, it would not be until we enter into the new year. You will be informed of changes well in advance.
