It is most helpful if parents have a “special place” where students can leave the notes each day— often a clip on the fridge or a place on a bench is most useful. Please do not ask for second copies of notes from teachers or the Office as valuable time and resources are lost in reproducing these. Important notes are also placed on our website, for parents’ and carers’ information and can be downloaded if in fact the note has been misplaced or lost. We thank all families for the wonderful manner in which children are wearing their school uniform. Comments have been made by members of the public, who have noticed students wearing their uniform correctly and with pride. This reinforces positive community opinion of our school. We congratulate Kale, who is currently in Quebec representing Australia in Ice Hockey. It is an honour to be recognised for sporting skills at such a high level. Kale competed in his first game on Friday 14 February. Games will continue throughout this week. We are proud of his fine achievement in being selected, and eagerly await his return to hear of his results. On Wednesday of this week our able Year 2 swimmers and students in Years 3-6 will be involved in the annual swimming carnival. PLEASE NOTE

As we start each year, we remind students of their need to grow in their independence , taking responsibility for their own actions and their own property. Included in their increasing responsibility is their need to ensure that notes are taken home. It is most helpful if parents have a “special place” where students can leave the notes each day—often a clip on the fridge or a place on a bench is most useful. Please do not ask for second copies of notes from teachers or the Office as valuable time and resources are lost in reproducing these.

Each year the school provides opportunities for students to be involved in excellent activities to develop their skills and talents. These activities are not compulsory, however, are equally to all students who meet age restrictions and are prepared to

meet the code of conduct.

Some activities require auditions or trials because there are more students interest-ed than there are places available. In these instances, students are selected on merit—based on their performance and expertise as witnessed by selecting staff. There are times when some students do miss out, and whilst we do know that can be disappointing for children, it is also an important part of growing up, to realise and understand that sometimes we do not get selected. Please be mindful

to explain this to your children prior to trials and auditions.

Wanting to start the school year with clarity and wondering about the meaning of some of the school terminology? Here’s a list of common abbreviations or terms to make the world inside the school gates seem a little more familiar. http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/homework-and-study/homework-tips/school-jargon-busters

Please be aware that Council Rangers have been on patrol around our school recently issuing fines for illegal parking, stopping, using mobile phones and speeding through the 40km school zones. Our Crossing Officer also can report any of these offences he witnesses resulting in a fine coming to you in the mail. Please do not drop off or collect your children from either side of the crossings. In our busy lives we are all usually rushing, especially in the mornings, however, the safety of all our children is more important than arriving somewhere on time. Please be mindful of the road and parking rules.
