Background and Company Performance

Industry Challenges

Aviation and Big-Data: The Beginning of a New Era

Data driven decision-making is fast evolving; with Big-Data solutions, the concept is taking the industry to a whole new level of situational awareness, which will deliver efficiency, effectiveness and safety. Commercial and military aviation industries are looking to evolve their existing data-driven decision making principles through suitable investments in IT infrastructure and reorganization of operations accordingly. However, due to the regulated nature of the industries and the evolving nature of Big-Data based solutions, Frost & Sullivan notes that the aviation industry [commercial and military] has yet to migrate to the level from where it can leverage all the opportunities that Big-Data systems can deliver.

Frost & Sullivan ongoing research monitors how airports and airlines are increasingly looking to spend more on their respective IT infrastructure; the investments and their returns have yet to corroborate each other. Frost & Sullivan notes that the elementary nature of existing IT implementation and fragmented presence of multiple unconnected IT systems are key areas which provide growth opportunities to all stakeholders involved in the commercial aviation industry.

Reduced Reliability in Extraction of Actionable Insights from Processed Data

The commercial aviation industry has multiple software solutions that act as decision support systems. However, they are largely designed for collecting, collating, processing, and displaying data points and performance metrics as per industry standards. Frost & Sullivan believes that the MRO segment of the industry will benefit much further from such solutions when they deliver actionable insights for the stakeholders involved. Such a solution catering to the MRO community through functionalities that deliver actionable insights has yet to be realized. Existing solutions focus more on checkpoints - and less on steps taken toward future benefits.

Lack of Software Solution Receptive of Stakeholder Work Culture

While International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) and regional regulators guide the commercial aviation operations globally, each region has a very different work culture, especially within the MRO domain owing to various geographic, climatic, and cultural factors. This results in diverse implementations of aviation regulations and procedures. Existing software solutions do not account for variation in work culture, which explains the region/culture-agnostic software capability that follows a standardized algorithm for collecting, processing, and displaying data. In other words, the industry lacks a standard

that allows the software solutions to deliver work-culture-oriented IT-implementation for enhanced operational efficiencies and safety in a more relevant and inclusive manner.

Exclusion of Stakeholder Experience from Data-driven Analytics

Modern software solutions in the commercial aviation domain largely cover diverse data segments and processing algorithms in a ‘processed-as-per-submission’ format. The ‘organizational memory’ delivered through such methods often leaves stakeholders with the burden of interpreting the analytics/insights at their end. Although Frost & Sullivan notes that the industry includes experienced stakeholders who are capable of interpreting the analytics/data-points more easily, they are not, however, involved in all programs and processes, especially within the MRO domain. Frost & Sullivan agrees that a solution that can support stakeholders as well as record and share insights and interpretations from experienced stakeholders will benefit the entire commercial aviation industry value chain by allowing personnel across diverse ranks and experience profiles to share their expertise in a standardized format.

Technology Leverage and Customer Impact

1Ansah is an IT solution provider for the commercial and military aviation industry focusing on machine-learning based big-data systems for MRO operations. The business is headquartered in Sydney, Australia and has an office in Southern California, US. The company has served airlines, aircraft manufacturers and aircraft maintenance repairers across the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe.

Focus on Unmet Needs

1Ansah’s AMRIT suite allows the customer to ingest and store all forms of available maintenance data and provides a comprehensive internalized search and delivery mechanism. The AMRIT suite helps maintenance stakeholders realize actionable insights by providing them the opportunity to review and investigate all forms of available, relevant data in one interactive user interface.

Frost & Sullivan exhaustive research reveals that this core design aspect of AMRIT suite truly sets it apart from comparable products and from other competitors who focus more on checkpoints concerned with standardized maintenance procedures - without providing the investigating opportunity for ad-hoc issue resolution, which is prominent in the line-maintenance, airframe MRO, component MRO and engine MRO segments of the aviation MRO industry value chain.

Commitment to Innovation

The 1Ansah team has decades of industry experience and has delivered successful solutions globally to airlines and airports. While the solutions the team delivers are for different customer groups covering diverse areas of commercial and defense aviation

including MRO operations, they share a common design philosophy and algorithm. Frost & Sullivan believes this indicates that 1Ansah’s AMRIT suite is an evolutionary, unique product based on tried and trusted methodologies over the years and across the globe by diverse stakeholders. This also indicates 1Ansah’s commitment to maintain and operate a lengthy product life-cycle through sustainable new product development strategies.

Blue Ocean Strategy

1Ansah’s AMRIT suite is a customizable solution that allows the customer to store and process diverse data sets. The diversity covers a broad range including manuals, sensor data, maintenance logs, stakeholder experiences and opinions. Such functionality remains unrealized by the MRO domain in the commercial aviation industry. With the AMRIT suite, 1Ansah has systemized and standardized storage and sharing of stakeholder experiences and opinions - which renders the solution quite unique in the market. Frost & Sullivan points out that 1Ansah, with the AMRIT suite, has created a blue ocean market for itself.

Visionary Innovation

The AMRIT suite can not only store and process diverse data sets and structures in natural language, but it also grows its intelligence base on an ongoing basis. The 1Ansah team has used its decades of machine learning expertise to develop the analytics algorithm that will allow the solution to improve its accuracy, relevance, and prognostic abilities over time. Such a self-learning functionality in an MRO software solution will add value to the operator over time, which, in turn, will make the investment in the AMRIT suite more than profitable. The 1Ansah team, by incorporating machine learning concepts utilizing their aviation experience, has set an industry best practice of enhanced data-driven MRO operations. While contemporary solutions focus largely on reducing current costs, 1Ansah is nicely focused on helping the customer reduce future operational costs in an ongoing, reliable manner.

Process Design

1Ansah follows a rather unique product development methodology; key stakeholder inputs are included from the design requirements phase. Instead of using industry standards as the benchmark for solution functionalities, the 1Ansah team works closely with key stakeholders who use the solution, and it subsequently develops a customized design that is oriented towards the customers’ needs and work culture. This genetic design makes 1Ansah’s AMRIT suite relevant to all stakeholders involved, and this also allows the stakeholders to add value to their respective work areas. The key design feature, however, is the one concerned with collecting, storing, and seamlessly distributing stakeholder experience and comments with respect to relevant MRO functions. This feature acts as a passive, anonymous insight-exchange platform that also enables the solution to grow its intelligence over time. Such a process design incorporated into the AMRIT suite will help customers maintain and grow their MRO organizational memory.

Operational Efficiency

While other comparable MRO IT solutions deliver value in different areas, they often impose proprietary clauses and the need to integrate with other solutions at the code level to enable interoperability across the organization. However, 1Ansah’s AMRIT suite is a front-end application that is modular and compatible with existing ERP systems and can utilize their data without having to integrate with them at the code level. 1Ansah’s specialty lies in the fact that it does not impose the need for any complete migration - and allows the customer to realize experience-driven data-analytics utilizing their existing IT solutions. This means that the customer can benefit from other IT investments previously made while also taking its MRO IT capabilities to the next level. Apart from this, 1Ansah’s solution is scalable and compatible with airline and airport level operations management functions. This flexibility will enable integration of diverse ERP systems and permit seamless data utilization and insights sharing across airline and airport stakeholders.

Conclusion

1Ansah has developed the AMRIT suite to allow the customer to integrate diverse data structures and stakeholder insights in a progressive manner, such that the solution grows its intelligence base over time. 1Ansah’s AMRIT suite does not impose code-level integration with existing ERP systems and applications, which allows customers to enhance the benefits delivered by their past IT investments for their MRO practice instead of having to replace an entire technology stack. The AMRIT suite is designed so that all stakeholders can share MRO insights for maintenance issue resolution. Incorporating machine learning methodologies and decades of aviation experience, the 1Ansah team has set an industry best practice of experience-based data-analytics for MRO in the commercial and military aviation domain - where organizations are enabled to build, maintain, and grow their respective MRO practice in a progressive manner.

With its strong overall performance, 1Ansah has earned the 2017 Frost & Sullivan Enabling Technology Leadership Award.

Significance of Enabling Technology Leadership Ultimately, growth in any organization depends upon customers purchasing from a company, and then making the decision to return time and again. In a sense, then, everything is truly about the customer—and making those customers happy is the cornerstone of any long-term successful growth strategy. To achieve these goals through technology leadership, an organization must be best-in-class in three key areas: understanding demand, nurturing the brand, and differentiating from the competition.

Understanding Enabling Technology Leadership Product quality (driven by innovative technology) is the foundation of delivering customer value. When complemented by an equally rigorous focus on the customer, companies can begin to differentiate themselves from the competition. From awareness, to consideration, to purchase, to follow-up support, best-practice organizations deliver a unique and enjoyable experience that gives customers confidence in the company, its products, and its integrity.
