Greenfield School Summer Reading

Middle School 2016-2017

Did you know that just twenty minutes of reading every day can increase your child’s test scores? It’s true! Summer is a great time to relax and have fun, but it’s also a wonderful time to learn about new people, places, and ideas with good books. Here are the required readings for each rising middle school class.

Rising 5th Grade

Each student is required to read three books by three different authors before school begins (see book selection list below).

Each student must complete a story map for two of the three selected books (see below).

Parents, please help your child to fill out the verification form for each book read and sign the form for each book.

Rising 6th Grade

Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine

The Cay by Theodore Taylor

There will be assessments on both of these books in the first few weeks of school.

Rising 7th Grade

Cheaper by the Dozen by Ernestine Gilbreth Carey and Frank Butler Gilbreth, Jr.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

There will be assessments on both of these books in the first few weeks of school.

Rising 8th Grade

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt

There will be assessments on both of these books in the first few weeks of school.
