Cessnock players and' supporters were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Ward, mother of Cessnock's assistant secretary Tom Ward. ,.
One of Lakes United's best clubmen is Third Grader Gary Buttons. Gary is· one of the most conscientious, and certainly the best dressed ti-ainer in the club and is always on ha11d to play or act as reserve for the Third Gr.ade team whenever it takes the field. Congratulations Gary and keep up the good work. ·
Frank, Wilkinson, North's hard working Asst. Secret-ary, was all smiles after last week's successful' cabaret. It was a1 huge success thanks to Frank's effort '·in as much so that a. repeat cabaret will be held same place, Trades Hall, three weeks time.
All at West are delighted with Allan Buman's selection in the N.S.W. Rugby League team at present touring Queensland. One ardent fan claims this is truly "Buman's Year". it can be said that he is cert-ainly having his best seas9n so far.
In his initial firs't grade game last week, Brian Borthwick from Waratah tµrned in a grand display. Brian has been one cf Waratah's most consistent forwards this year and it is going to be hard to keep him out of first grade from now on.
One of, Lakes United's most versatile players , · is Reserve Grader George Foster. George has played for Lakes in all three grades in every position on the field except hooker. Maybe the ,selectors will give you an opportunity in that position before long. George.
Covered with mud, but still able to smile despite a busted eye was Wa.ratah/s forwal·d Jeff McTaggart. Last week Jeff was seen at his best all thrnugh the second half and his he culian efforts in defence, aid much give _his side victory.
Pleasing to see veteran forward Rex Elvin having a good season with Central. Rex originally .came 'to Central in 1956 after having been graded first grade with Newtown.
Billy Mattingly showed 'he has recovered from his illness with a great first up game last week. Another good game today should make him a strong condendor for a senior place with North.
It was· a pity for Waratah five eighth David Higgins that the ground became a , sea. of mud last week. David had "made;, Waratah's try and seemed sr,i'. for a b)g game, when the rain ma it a forwards' game. David has ff peers, as a five eighth.

In West Thf.·c;l Grade, a familiar name is listed to re-appear, that of Col Bakes. ' This big forward has been of g}"eat value, to West, h1:1,ving pl-ayed in a· few torrid games over the year. "Big 'un" as he is known to most players will, if he strikes form, be a big asset in the semi-finals no matter what grade.
Congratulations· to C'entrl fullback Dryl Lee.' Daryl is, playing
· his 99th ,game with Central todayagainst Kurri, one to go and hisshould be achieved next week agamstMacquarie.
'
Macquarie's reserve ,grade fullback njeter Rostron is showing good form is season. Peter commenced the ason in thirds but won his way to
reserves with some improved displays.
Maitland players winners of best and fairest trophies last Saturday were · Ron Madge, Doug Ryan and Hilton Eveleigh.
Kevin Coleman of the Maitland club showed what a great clubman he is l:iy shifting from the, fullback to lock forward position last Saturday and capped a good performanceby scoring two tries. ' )
Cessnock centres Pere· Wilton and Brian Slade really showed, what they can do when they get the ball on the move by playing outstanding games against South Newcastle last Satur-d!!,y.
"]west· ;entre in ;ese1'ves at presentGarry Walsh, possessed of average
.ace, and a sound defence. Garry, when he learns the positional game, could , develop into ·a class centre so go to it"Yarba". I'
,
Johnny Slade is continuing his grand leadership of Norths reserves. His calculated field goal to win the match ag'ainst Kurri showed this leadership in its brightest light.
Trophy donors to the Maitland club / this seaspn are first grade Henry
Ferry, reserve grade Jack Kerry and third grade Dick Heads.
A great Central barracker is Miss Agnes Price of Mayfield. Agnes recently celebrated her 'majority' and was noticed last Saturday · at the Sportsground curled 1,1p in a new
'rug1 just one of the many birthdaygifts.
Kevin Mavin has been an inspiration to Macquarie thirds this 'season .• I Kevin is leading in the club competitio,n for this grade.
Promising young Lakes United centre, T·evor Andrews, who fractured 11is leg against South in the first round is' making a rapid recovery. Trevor has his leg out of plaster and is returning to work this week. He is even talking of playing again before tl).e end of the season.
CLINIC FOR INJURED The Sydney hospital has opened a
clinic for the treatment of footballers suffering from injuries. It will be knoym as Sydney Hospital's Sportsman's Clinic and will be open 24 hours per day seven days per week.
This new venture will be of benefit to all sportsmen, who will be required to meet normal out-patient charges-.
The hospital's scheme . will , prove / to be a financial saving for the 'sportsmen, because present day physiotherapists' charges range from one to two guineas a visit ..
