Industrial placements form anintegral part of the delivery of our IT service, becoming subject matter experts in their area of responsibility andengaging with a diverse range of clients during their year at 3M.3M IT Industrial Placement students:· Are passionate about technology

Training and developmentIT industrial placement students join one of our teams straight away and initially undergo a period of intensivetraining in their role. They deal with real business clients from day one as this is the best way to quickly build upknowledge. We operate in a highly collaborative environment so placements can rely on plenty of support fromcolleagues to help them get started and this will continue throughout their time at 3M.Of course we recognise that on the job training won't give you everything, so there is also a wider trainingpackage which fits around your team assignment. The department has a comprehensive induction processwhich aims to give new Industrial Placements visibility over all aspects of IT. It's good background knowledgeand gives you a chance to think about how your career in IT might progress. Alongside this, we have our corporate placement development programme which is delivered throughout the year. This encompasses skills

training in project leadership, time management, giving presentations and tactics for successful negotiation, aswell as ensuring industrial placements have a good understanding of how 3M functions as a business. We aim

to ensure that this training will serve you well during your time at 3M, your final year at university and your ongoing career.

The roleIndustrial placements in applications development join our European eBusiness group, focussing on either Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or 3M.com.Our CRM platform is Siebel, an industry leading solution, which we customise to meet the needs of 3M's salesand marketing teams. The industrial placement student is responsible for delivering direct support the user community on their use of Siebel and trouble shooting any problems that arise. They will also be involved withthe release cycle for enhancements to Siebel which occurs three times a year. As the first point of contact for 

our CRM clients, this role is integral to ensuring that we continue to meet the business needs and respond totheir challenging demands.3M.com is built on an internally developed web platform on which the industrial placement student is expectedto quickly get up to speed. Their role is to provide direct support on the use of the platform to a diverse rangeof clients, finding technical solutions for their digital marketing needs. As an internally developed platform weare constantly enhancing our capabilities and part of the industrial placement's role is to identify opportunitiesfor new development and propose solutions. In some cases, they may be asked to develop a solutionthemselves and are given the appropriate support to do this.Both roles are part of the European organisation, meaning that the client base is around thirty 3M subsidiariesin the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.Key responsibilities will include:· Providing professional and timely support and consultancy to the user community on the functionality of our IT applications· Problem solving to resolve challenging technical issues

· Forming good communication links with the user community· Identifying opportunities for process and technical improvement and proposing solutions· Actively managing periods of degraded service to restore to normal as quickly as possible

Required profile:Undergraduates on IT-related degree courses with strong first year results (2:1 equivalent), 300 UCAS points atA level and at least B grades in English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent qualifications.Technical Experience which demonstrates a commitment to working in IT. Relevant technical experience couldinclude small application or website development projects or providing IT support and can come fromacademic, recreational or professional situations.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to operate at all levels of the organisation and towork with users of varying technical abilities.Team oriented. Encourages others and works effectively in a team to achieve the required goal, but is alsoable to work independently without supervision.

Fast learner who can quickly assimilate and apply new concepts including programming languages.Problem solver who is able to demonstrate a tenacious attitude to finding the right solutionSelf motivated and enthusiasticOrganised with excellent timekeeping skills. Able to prioritise their work to ensure their most important itemsare delivered first. 

MobilityIndustrial placement students are expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance (under 45 minutestravel) from 3M Centre in Bracknell. We will put successful candidates in touch with other students joining theorganisation to assist with finding accommodation.

Compensation and benefits· Starting salary of £16,830· 25 days holiday
