First grade students will track their behavior at the end of the day by
coloring in a calendar chart. This helps students take ownership of their
behavior and parents informed of what’s happening in the classroom. Please
look at this calendar chart every day with your child and initial it. If your
child had a yellow, orange, or red day, please ask your child why and discuss
the importance of good behavior. Please leave this calendar in your child’s
folder.
Music First graders may participate in Ready, Set, Bow, a beginning violin
program for K-2 students. They also have weekly music class.
6
Homework Folder
First Graders will have a Homework Folder that will go home each night and
brought back to school the next day. Homework for First Grade will consist of
weekly homework and daily homework. Weekly homework will consist of Bible
memory, Reading Log, Spelling List, Sight Word list and Math facts and a library
book. This homework should be practiced and reviewed each night and should be
turned by Friday morning. Daily homework will consist of a Phonics and/or Math
worksheet that will be turned in every day.
Homework should take about 15 minutes not including a Library book reading
assignment and the Reading Log Homework.
Weekly Homework Schedule Monday – Bible Memory, Spelling List, Library Book, Reading Log, Sight Word List
Tuesday – Phonics, Reading Log
Wednesday – Math, Reading Log
Thursday – Phonics, Math Facts, Reading Log
Friday – No homework – Library book due.
Trimester Report Cards
Your child will receive a trimester report card at the end of each trimester.
Parent/Teacher conferences will be held during the first trimester. If you have
any concerns during the year I am very happy to schedule a conference to talk
with you. If your work schedule does not allow you to see me each day, I
encourage you to keep up with your child’s progress through notes to school or feel
free to contact me at school after 3:00 p.m. You can also reach me via e-mail at
7
Student Dress
Please consult the school handbook on appropriate uniform attire.
Wednesday is chapel and Chapel Dress should be worn. If your child is in School
Age Care it is helpful to dress them in “layers”. This allows the child to add or
subtract “layers” as the weather changes during the course of the day. If your
student is not wearing correct attire they will be given a dress code notice.
Lunch Information
Your child may bring lunch to school or choose to purchase a hot lunch. Hot
Lunch will be provided every day by “Cater Tots”. Lunches will be sold on a pre-
order, prepayment basis only. Menus can be viewed on line and lunches are
ordered on the Company’s Website @ www.catertots.com
Snack
Students may bring a nutritious snack in their lunch box to be eaten
at the beginning of morning recess.
Chapel
Chapel will be on Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:00am. Chapel
uniforms should be worn and masks are required in chapel. Our class will be
leading chapel on Wednesday, February 16th.
Chapel Offerings
We will be collecting offerings on Wednesday for chapel. Each child will receive a
coin box to collect their offering. This year our school will partner with World
Mission to deliver the word of God in audio format to unreached people.

Supplies
The supply list will tell you what supplies will be needed in the first grade
classroom. The list is available in the school office as well as on the First Grade
Website: www.hephathagrade1.weebly.com.
It is required that each child bring a regular school size backpack
(preferably, not rolling) to and from school each day. Please label your child’s
backpack, lunchbox and sweater or jacket clearly with your child’s name.
Birthdays at Hephatha in First Grade
This year we ask that any birthday treats be store bought and individually
wrapped if you are sending something to school to celebrate your child’s birthday.
Students who have a food allergy or a special diet may want to send in some treats
for me to keep and pass out on birthday celebration days!
Birthday Parties
Children may pass out birthday invitations at school only if every child in the
class is invited. (Or all of the boys or all of the girls) Each child’s feelings are
precious to me and I do not want any hurt feelings from a student not being
invited to a party. If you are unable to accommodate this, please mail the
invitations at home.
Student of the Week
Every student will get the chance to be the student of the week. Each day
during the week the student of the week will have special classroom
responsibilities and on Friday, the student of the week will have share time. The
student will also answer questions about themselves the other students ask. This
activity is a great way to get students to ask different types of questions as well
as get the chance to practice their public speaking.
9
Please fill out the information in the Student of the Week Folder that will go
home on Friday and return it on Monday. The students may email me pictures to
share on the big board, bring a stuffed animal to keep at their desk for the week
and bring their favorite book to read for Share Time on Friday.
