2 GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE February 2018
Dear Brother Knights,
Looking back on January, our Men’s Retreat for me was definitely the highlight of the month. We learned more about how to live our faith by accepting God’s call to “go”, without knowing exactly where it will lead. The weather was perfect, the food was great, the environment as beautiful as ever. If you somehow were not able to go this year, or especially if you have never been, it would serve you well to make a point of not missing the Men’s Retreat next year!
But now on to February… Lent is just around the corner! In addition to a time for prayer, repentance and fasting in preparation for Easter, we Knights will be busy each Friday preparing and serving our traditional Lenten dinners. Knights of Columbus Lenten Dinners are an opportunity to work together serving our par-ish community and are a major fundraiser for our council’s charities. We continue to evolve and enhance the menu this year by upgrading our salmon selection and adding tasty fish tacos to the menu. Also new this year, we are partnering with St Joseph School (SJS) parents who will be taking over adult beverage sales as a fund raiser for the 8th Grade trip to Washington DC and New York in May.
Other Knights’ activities in February include the annual SJS Free-throw Contest (to be held 2/1/18) where we provide students a friendly competition in which winners can continue on to compete at District, Or-ange County and even State levels within the Knights of Columbus. We subscribe to the belief that focus and discipline required for athletic excellence is valuable in faith formation and character development. If you are interested in helping out at this event, please contact our Youth Programs Director, Felix Piro.
As always you are very welcome to get more involved and join us for Knights meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in which we will continue to plan events such as our first annual Father’s Day Eve Prime Rib Dinner coming up in June.
Have a Happy Lent!
Your Servant in Christ,
Bob Alvarado

Hi my friends and brothers in Christ,
Plan for this Tax Day and into the
Future
April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner. Its become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Or perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encourag-ing you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason.
Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And, our an-nuities do pay a very competitive in-
terest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does retirement income that you can-not outlive— guaranteed— sound to you?
Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disci-plined savings placed into that annuity over time can —properly structured— guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guaran-tee —along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember — absolute safety of principal) — really will provide you with peace of mind.
I am happy to meet with you — at
your convenience and in your home — to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annu-ity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care insurance plans.
God Love you all!
Best Regards, KEVIN J. GARZA FICF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ORANGE COUNTY FIELD AGENT
