THE RESTis history
From landmarks defined by centuries under Norman rule to an iconic pirate of the Caribbean seas, Llanrumney’s heritage holds an important place in Cardiff’s history.
Llanrumney�has�long�been�associated�with�the�Morgan�family,�whose�coat�of�arms�sits�above�the�fireplace�at�Llanrumney�Hall,�the�home�of�five�generations�of�Morgans.�
The�family’s�most�infamous�member��was�Sir�Henry�Morgan,�a�successful�privateer.�His�reputation�as�a�fearful�buccaneer�inspired�the�popular�brand��of�rum,�Captain�Morgan,�created��in�1944.
Sir�Henry�Morgan’s�influence�is�not�limited�to�rum.�Llanrumney�shares�its�name�with�a�populated�area�in�the��St�Mary�Region�in�the�north�of�Jamaica,��an�area�so�called�as�it�is�on�the�site�of��one�of�Morgan’s�Jamaican�properties,�which�he�wistfully�named�Llanrumney.
