We have had another fantastic week in Nursery Seahorse class! We have beencontinuing to read stories from Oliver Jeffers such as ‘Lost and Found’ and ‘Up andDown’. We have loved learning all about penguins too! This week in literacy, the children have done an amazing job at creating actions to helpthem remember the story ‘Up and Down’ and join in with the repeated refrains. Theythen painted story maps and we jumbled up all of the paintings and then put them inorder to help us retell what was happening. The little penguin in the story really wantedto fly, so the Seahorses thought about what superpower they would choose to have. They came up with fantastic ideas such as, Frozen Girl, Invisible Boy and Spider Boy!It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as their skills of communication andlanguage continue to flourish. In phonics, the children have continued to practice their S, A and T sounds. They aredoing an amazing job at spotting these sounds as we read our stories. I am so proudof how they are also independently searching for these sounds around our schoolenvironment. All by themselves, they found spaghetti in our home corner, ants in oursmall world area and tigers in our animal kingdom to represent the sounds. They havecontinued to sing their jolly phonics songs to help them practice too. In Maths, the children have loved singing their ‘10 Little Penguins’ song to help themcount and order penguins in our classroom. They have also begun to think about howto measure and develop their understanding of biggest and smallest. They have donea wonderful job of ordering the characters in our ‘Lost and found’ and ‘Up and Down’stories from the biggest to the smallest. Seahorses had their first Computing Day. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Bee-Bots as an introduction to programming. They sang along with mummy penguin asthey went on an adventure with Smartie the Penguin to learn all about how to keepthemselves safe whilst using digital devices. This term, the Seahorses will continue tobuild on their understanding of algorithms, programming and digital literacy. Super work Seahorses! Miss Toal, Nursery Seahorses

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Year 5 had lots of frosty fun thisweek as they used their knowledge of states of matter and changes in materials, asthey created their very own ice cream. Over the past half term Year 5 have been learning all about solids, liquids and gasesand what classifies different materials. The pupils have also become familiar withreversible and irreversible changes in states of matter; after some fantastic work andamazing Learning Log Projects linked to their Science topic. As a reward for all of thepupil's effort, they became professional ice cream tasters! A simple mixture of ice, salt, cream and vanilla extract, shaken thoroughly in zip bags tocombine the ingredients, forming a new substance - delicious ice cream. Some of thepupils preferred their own ice cream to the store bought one, of course we had to eat itall just to be sure!
