  1. 1. Values Education Training For Volunteer Teachers
  2. 2. Each day our students areconfronted with issues that will impact their future and determine their destiny. Their choices are a reflection of thevalues they are formulating, values that will ultimately shapetheir character.
  3. 3. The Book of Hope is the chronological harmony of thelife and teachings of Jesus Christ. It provides students with afoundation that can help themmake choices that will result in productive and meaningfullives.
  4. 4. Jesus knew the impact that his teachingwould have on future generations. One ofthe last things he told his followers was to go everywhere and help others learn thethings that he had taught them. (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Timothy 2:2;) Train up a child in the way he should go,And when he is old he will not depart fromit. - Proverbs 22:6
  5. 5. Amazing opportunities in very troubled times1. Gods message doesnt change with the times2. In His forecast there is always HOPE!HOPE3. And it is our responsibility to the next generation to point the way4. What a privilege to be the carriers of such significant news! His Word.

  8. 8. BoH Character Education Curriculum1. This curriculum has been designed to actively engage students in relevant interaction with the Scripture1. Engaging students in meaningfulinteraction with the Scripture iscrucial because it has the power tochange lives, both for now andeternity.
  9. 9. Character Education/Values formation Teaching for change involves much more thanpresenting students with a list of rules to followand life principles to memorize.Dr. Lourdes Quisumbing - For a concept to beturned into action, it must first find its way into ourvalue system. Antonio Ulgado - Values are ideas that areemotionally fired. Jesus, Out of the abundance of the heart (not themind) the mouth speaks. (MATT. 12:34)
  10. 10. Knowledge + understanding -> leads to belief whichaffects behavior It is entirely possible for a student to have a clear knowledge of right vs. wrong while at the same time living a life totally opposite to what they know True or FalseBelief = Values Its not what we know that we do. Its what we believe that we do (value/dearly hold to).
  11. 11. In teaching values we must move beyond telling.Students been told all their lives what is right and whatis wrong. Instead we must see ourselves as facilitators forlearning (learning guides) who intentionally seek toenable our students to:1. Experience the satisfaction of personal discovery2. Establish a framework for making wise choices3. Become confident and decisive in confronting life issues4. Lead responsible and productive lives
  12. 12. It has been said that values are better caught thantaught, but actually they are both taught and caught. a) Caught 1.Teenagers not easily fooled 2.Quick to pick up on how well our talk lines up with our walk a) Taught I.Facilitating discovery vs. teaching facts II. Each session involves a variety of learning styles, such as role-play, group research and styles discovery sessions, art projects, games and self- test to help accomplish this purpose.
  13. 13. With this in mind, the lessons you present using BoH should: Encourage students to interact with the ideas presented.
