Squares and rectangles

Perimeter is the distance around a figure. For a rectangle or square, we can find the perimeter using two procedures:

Using addition: (l + l) + (w + w). Add the length and its opposite side. Add the width to its opposite. Find the sum of the lengths and widths. For a square use (s+s+s+s) .

Using multiplication: (l x 2) + (w x 2). Multiply the length by 2. Multiply the width by 2. Find the sum of the products. For a square use 4 s because all the sides are congruent.

Area is the number of square units inside a retangle or square. Area is found by multiplying the length by the width or side by side in the case of a square.

A = l x w A = s x s

parallel.

The Perimeter is the sum of all side lengths:

Perimeter = a+b+c+dhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfgwHpt-gG4

HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=-BL3FLZBIFEPerimeter of a TrapezoidThe Perimeter is the distance around the edges.

Example: A trapezoid has side length of 5 cm, 12 cm, 4 cm and 15 cm, what is its Perimeter?Perimeter = 5 cm + 12 cm + 4 cm + 15 cm = 36 cm

Area of a Trapezoid

The Area is the average of the two base lengths times the altitudeA = (a + b) X h

The circumference of a circle is the distance around the outside of the circle. It could be called the perimeter of the circle.

How to find the circumference of a circle: The circumference of a circle can be found by

multiplying pi ( π = 3.14 ) by the diameter of the circle.

If you know the radius, the diameter is twice as large.
