Overview
Network sharing provides the following advantages for
operators:
Significantly reduced investment
Accelerated network deployment
Expanded network coverage
The infrastructure that can be shared includes sites,
equipment rooms, towers, and power suppliers.
Network equipment that can be shared includes base stations,
transmission equipment, and core network (CN) equipment.

Overview (Cont.)
eNodeBs support the following RAN sharing modes:
Independent operator mode: In this mode, the operators
cannot share their RAN resources due to geographic factors
but can share their RANs by allowing national roaming.
RAN sharing with common carriers: operators share RAN
resources, including carrier resources and eNodeB hardware
resources
RAN sharing with dedicated carriers: cell-level features are
configured for each individual operator, and eNodeB-level
features are shared between operators.

Independent Operator Mode
In operator A's network (home network), operator A serves this user.
After leaving operator A's network and roaming to operator B's network,
operator B serves the user.

RAN Sharing with Common Carriers
In RAN sharing with common carriers, the operators share
RAN resources, including carrier resources and eNodeB
hardware resources.
This mode applies to the following scenarios:
One operator is allocated with spectrum and can share the
spectrum with others.
Multiple operators are allocated with spectrum, and they can
contribute their spectrum to form a resource pool. They can share
the pool among themselves or with others who are not allocated
with spectrum.

Primary and secondary operators
The type of an operator is specified by theCnOperatorType parameter in a CnOperator MO.
The CnOperatorTa MO defines a TAC for an operator. The
CellOp MO defines an operator for a cell. All operators of a cell must be configured with the same
TAC. Specifically, the Tac parameters in the CnOperatorTa
MOs must be set to the same value. These MOs are
associated with the CellOp MOs of a cell through the
TrackingAreaId parameter.

EPC Selection
The UE notifies the eNodeB of
the selected EPC after the
radio resource control (RRC)
connection setup is complete. The eNodeB then selects the
corresponding S1 interface
based on the PLMN ID
selected by the UE.

Feature and Capacity Management
In RAN sharing with common carriers, a license purchase
order is placed by only one party.
Each eNodeB still has only one license file, which specifies
the total licensed limits for all RAN sharing operators, not fora specific operator.

Number of Active Users
The active users of the eNodeB can be distributed among
operators based on the proportions by using capacity
control items in the license.
The sum of proportions for all operators cannot be greaterthan 100%.

Traffic Volume
When operators purchase the license containing the traffic
volume control item, the total traffic volume can be allocated
to operators based on the proportions specified below.
If the parameter is set to SHARING(Sharing), all operatorsshare the total traffic volume of the eNodeB.

Fair Sharing of Air Interface
Resources
To ensure fair sharing of radio resources, the parameters
below should be configured according to operators’
agreement.

RAN Sharing with Dedicated Carriers
(Cont.)
RAN sharing with dedicated carriers is transparent to UEs
and EPCs because operators have their own cells and a
shared eNodeB uses different identifiers to communicate
with different EPCs. As a result, RAN sharing with
dedicated carriers does not have additional requirements
for UEs and EPCs.
In RAN sharing with dedicated carriers, cell-level features
are configured for each individual operator , and
eNodeB-level features are shared between operators.
