HEAD COACH MIKE BOYNTONSecond season | South Carolina, '03

►Mike Boynton took the reigns of the program in 2017 and wasted little time reignit-ing the Cowboy basketball fanbase.

►Under Boynton, the Cowboys have posted six wins over ranked opponents, including four victories over top-10 squads.

►In 2017-18, OSU tied the school record with 15 home wins and notched four victories over teams that advanced to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.

►With over a dozen years of experience at the Divi-sion I level, Boynton has been a part of nine combined postseason runs as a coach and a player, including NCAA Tournament appearances in four of the last five years.

►His philosophy on life and the game of basketball can be summed up in his favorite saying – let’s work – and his Cowboy teams will be a living embodiment of that, with hard-nosed defense and up-tempo attack.

THE BASICS

►Oklahoma State used feisty defensive pressure and a blistering 3-point barrage to take down the reigning CAA champions, Charleston, 70-58, on Sunday afternoon. Now the Cowboys will head out for a five-game road swing - the program's longest regular-season stretch away from home since 2011 - starting with the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando, Florida. First up for OSU in Orlando will be a rematch of the 2013 AdvoCare Invi-tational finals against Memphis, which is led by first-year head coach and former Tiger great Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway. This is OSU's third trip to the AdvoCare Invitational, which could feature a second-round matchup against Canisius or Villanova. LSU, Florida State, UAB and Charleston round out the field.

ON THE AIR

►The matchup between the Cowboys and Tigers will air on ESPN2 at 2:30 p.m. Central. Karl Ravech and Dalen Cuff will handle the on-air duties. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call.

OKLAHOMA STATE SNAPSHOT

►Defense-First MindsetOklahoma State has always been about defense, and the 2018-19 Cowboys are no exception. OSU's high-pressure defense ranks 38th nationally in turnover

percentage (24.0) and 39th in effective field percentage defense (42.6). The Cowboys are holding teams to 61.3 points per game which ranks 42nd nationally, and are forcing 17.0 turnovers per game, which ranks 65th.

►Three's CompanyAs a team, OSU is shooting a blistering 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from 3-point, which ranks second in the Big 12 and seventh nationally. The three Cowboy captains - Thomas Dziagwa, Lindy Waters and Cameron McGriff - account for the bulk of that mark, and are a combined 26-of-52 (.500) from deep this season. Dziagwa ranks 12th nationally with 4.33 makes per game on 61.9 percent shooting, which ranks 14th in the country.

►McGriff Poised For BreakoutLast season, Cameron McGriff was either one rebound or one bucket away from a double-double six times, but last Wednesday night he busted out for 20 points and 10 rebounds to earn his first career double-double. At 17.0 points and 7.7 rebounds, the junior is now the only Big 12 player averaging those marks, and he's one of just three Big 12 players with a 20-point, 10-rebound game. In 2017-18, McGriff showed flashes of this capability. He led OSU to road wins at Kansas and West Virginia with 20 points and nine rebounds in each contest, and bullied Oklahoma with 18 points and nine rebounds in the Big 12 Championship opener.

►Dizzy-ing PaceThomas Dziagwa, nicknamed "Dizzy" by his teammates, is proving that a summer challenge from head coach Mike Boynton is paying off. Boynton challenged Dziagwa to make 25,000 3-pointers on his own time. He not only topped that goal but almost reached 26,000. So, no one in the Cowboy locker room is shocked that Dziagwa is 13-of-21 (.619) from 3-point. His 4.5 makes per game and 61.9 percent clip rank 12th and 14th nationally, respectively, and KenPom ranks Dziagwa ninth nationally in "True Shooting Percentage".

►Likekele StoryFreshman Isaac Likekele (10.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.3 apg) is one of just two Big 12 players averaging at least 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game (Nick Weiler-Babb, Iowa State). The former Texas 5A state champion and all-state guard from Mansfield Timberview High School has a vocal leadership style to go with length and versatility. Boynton has been quick to describe Likekele as "in the mold of" Cowboy greats Tony Allen and Marcus Smart.

►Plenty of New CowboysThe Cowboys are bringing a new-look squad to the floor in 2018-19. OSU has nine newcomers to the roster, which are the seventh most among all Division I schools nationwide. Only nine schools return fewer letterwinners than OSU's four returners. Those four returners accounted for just 30.1 percent of the team's minutes in 2017-18, which ranks 14th nationally in fewest minutes returning this year. KenPom ranks the Cowboys roster 331st nationally in returning experience.

►Yor Kidding MeYor Anei has proven to be a natural shot-blocker. The 6-10 freshman with the 7'0 1/2" wing span blocked four shots in the win over UTSA and followed it up with three blocks, all in the second half, against Charleston. Anei's 2.3 blocks per game ranks fifth in the Big 12 and 45th nationally. Through three games, Anei has accounted for half of Oklahoma State's blocks. As a team, OSU ranks 93rd nationally with 4.7 blocks per game.

►"Indian of the Year"The 2018 American Indian Exposition honored Lindy Waters with their Indian of the Year award. The AIE is one of the oldest and largest intertribal gatherings in the United States. The celebrations dates back to 1924 and includes representatives from nearly 50 native tribes each year. Past Indian of the Year award winners include Willie Nelson, Roy Rogers and Crystal Gayle. Wates celebrates his Kiowa/Cherokee heritage, and was presented the award after four days of celebrations and parades.

►Euro TripOSU experienced a 10-day European tour that featured a pair of wins and countless sightseeing and team-building opportunities. On top of going 2-1, OSU averaged 75.7 points and handed out 16.7 assists per game while seven players averaged at least 8.0 points. OSU toured Venice, Rome and Athens during their 10 days abroad, and got 10 extra practices prior to departing.

►80th Year of the White MapleWelcome to the 80th year on the historic white maple floor of GIA, which has the distinction of being the oldest in college basketball. Since hosting its first game on Dec. 9, 1938 (a 21-15 win over Kansas) the GIA floor has seen OSU amass an 802-228 (.778) home record, which has included just eight non-conference home losses since 1987. In 2005, the floor was named in honor of Eddie Sutton, who won 804 career games and led OSU to Final Four ap-pearances in 1995 and 2004.

►Transfer of PowerAndy Katz named Curtis Jones one of the nation's top-15 transfers heading into the 2018-19 season. The Richmond, Virginia native appeared in 40 games for Indiana over the previous two seasons, and is expected to be eligible for the Cowboys at semester break (OSU finals end Dec. 14). The junior shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from beyond the arc in 2016-17, and scored 3.5 points in 11.2 minutes per game as a true freshman. Jones was a standout at Huntington Prep and a consensus top-100 recruit prior to his time in Bloomington, Indiana.

►The GraduateA veteran of 96 career games and 1,181 points at USC Upstate, Mike "Chico" Cunningham brings an instant dose of experience to a young Cowboy roster. The lone senior on this year's squad, Cunningham has connected on 215 career 3-pointers at a clip of 37.3 percent. He owns 65 career double-digit scoring games and 14 career 20-point performanc-es. Cunningham earned his bachelor's degree from USC Upstate in Interdisciplinary Studies, and is pursuing a master's degree in leisure studies from OSU.

►Coaching VeteransCowboy head coach Mike Boynton is one of just 12 coaches in the country, and the only coach in the Big 12, to have the luxury of multiple former head coaches on his staff. John Cooper is a veteran of over 100 wins as a head coach at Miami-Ohio (2017-17) and Tennessee State (2009-12), while Scott Sutton spent 18 seasons as the head coach at Oral Roberts, where he posted 328 career wins.

►Home, Sweet HomeThe Cowboys won a school-record tying 15 games in Gallagher-Iba Arena last season, which strengthened OSU's already stellar record in the "Madison Square Garden of the Plains". Overall, the Cowboys are 802-228 (.778) in GIA, but own a stunning 216-8 record in non-conference home games since 1989.

►Preseason PollsThe Cowboys were once again picked to finish 10th in the Big 12 by the league's coaches. Last season, OSU went on to defy those expectations by finishing with 21 wins overall and in a tie for sixth place in the league at 8-10. The Cowboys took two out of three matchups against both Oklahoma and Kansas, and split the season series with West Virginia and Texas Tech.

►Body TransformationsKentrevious Jones is just one of several Cowboy players to make huge strides in improving their bodies thanks to a rigorous strength & conditioning and nutrition program monitored by Jake Manzelmann. Listed at 6-10, Jones went into the summer weighing 320 pounds, but dropped over 50 pounds and now checks in at 265. Duncan Demuth needed to go the other direction with his weight. At 186, Demuth was undersized for the Big 12 at 6-8, but over the summer he jumped to 206 pounds. Isaac Likekele needed to refine his weight, and went from 223 pounds to 202 and lowered his body fat from 14 percent to 7.5.

►2017-18 in ReviewMike Boynton's first year in Stillwater was one to remember thanks to six wins over ranked opponents, including a school-record four victories over top-10 teams, and a school-record tying 15 home wins. Built on the mantra "Let's Work," the Cowboys became the first team to sweep the regular season series with Kansas since 2001. The senior trio of Jeffrey Carroll, Mitchell Solomon and Kendall Smith helped the Cowboys advance to the third round of the NIT and re-ignite the OSU fanbase.

QUOTABLE COWBOY►Head coach Mike Boynton after the game ...."Yeah, I love this group. I have been talking about their poten-tial for a long time and I think today was one of those times when you could see a glimmer of it. We're still not whole. We still got a couple guys working their way back for different reasons, but I see what this team can become and I really, really think that it'll be something people really appreciate."

INSIDE THE MATCHUP WITH MEMPHIS

►The Series Against the Tigers The Cowboys and Tigers have produced some notable hardwood battles over the years, including a showdown in the 2013 Old Spice Classic (now the AdvoCare Invitational) finals in HP Field House. The Cowboys lead the overall series, 5-3, including a 75-55 victory in the FedEx Forum in the last meeting

back in 2014. In the only postseason meeting, OSU took down Memphis, 70-53, in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament in Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri.

►Memphis Snapshot First-year head coach Penny Hardaway and Memphis were picked to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll. Hardaway, a former Memphis All-American and four-time NBA All-Star, was named the Tigers' head coach in March and his hiring has energized the program. The Tigers will be led on the court by Jeremiah Martin, who was named to the AAC All-Preseason First Team after recording 18.9 points per game, which ranked second in the conference last season. He is among a solid group of returnees for the Tigers, who have four starters back, including second-leading scorer (at 13.3 points per game) and leading rebounder (at 6.1 per game) in Kyvon Davenport.

MEMPHIS 55

QUICK HITTERS►Le'Bryan Nash scored 20 points and Anthony Hickey, Jr. and Phil Forte, III each threw down 19 as Oklahoma State galloped away from Memphis, 73-55.►Nash, who had just six points early in the second half, came on late at the foul line (12 of 14) to extend his streak of double-figure outings to eight straight games.► The 19 points and five steals for Hickey were a then-career-best performance at OSU, which improved to 8-1 with the victory. ►OSU forced 23 turnovers and recorded double-digit steals (15) for the fifth time in nine games that season.►Kuran Iverson and Trashon Burrell scored 13 each for Memphis, which shot just 35.1 percent on the day.

QUOTABLE COWBOY►Head coach Travis Ford on Hickey's performance ..."Anthony Hickey was a great leader today. He set the tone defensively. As a team, our defensive intensity was off the charts, and that's the best that it's been. It's great to see because that's what we worked on all week. We practiced harder this week probably harder than we have for a prior game in a long time. It paid off for us."

►Back In The AdvoCare InviteThis is Oklahoma State's third appearance in the AdvoCare Invitational. The Cowboys are 3-3 all-time in the event after advancing to the finals in 2013 and a seventh place finish in 2008. The event began in 2006 as the Orlando Classic, but was also previously known as the Old Spice Classic.

►Sunshine State CowboysA couple of Oklahoma State players grew up in Tampa, which is just an hour away from Orlando and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Junior Thomas Dziagwa, a Temple Terrace, Florida, native, played his high school ball for his father, Don, at Tampa Catholic. Freshman Duncan Demuth hails from Seminole, Florida. Both players were regulars at Disney World while growing up, and both say they have played dozens of games in HP Field House.

►2013 Old Spice Classic• The No. 5 ranked Cowboys were led by All-American Marcus Smart, and took down Purdue, 97-87, in the opening round thanks 30 points from Smart despite battling foul trouble. • In the semifinals, OSU led by 23 points at haltime against Butler, who rallied in the second half to tighten the game. With OSU ahead 68-87, Butler's Khyle Marshall was fouled with 8.4 seconds remaining, but missed both free throws. The Cowboys hung on for a 69-67 win to advance to the championship game. • In the finals, Memphis' Shaq Goodwin had 17 points and Joe Jackson hit four key late free throws to beat OSU, 73-68. Marcus Smart battled a stomach virus and was held to 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting. Down, 69-68, with 11 seconds remaining, OSU had the ball but turned it over and Jackson hit a pair of free throws.

►2008 Old Spice Classic• In the opener, OSU's Obi Muonelo recorded a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds, but with Cowboys leading 63-62 with 6:38 remaining, No. 9 Gonzaga went on a 9-0 run and ended up pulling away for an 83-71 victory.• Oklahoma State matched No. 5 Michigan State blow-for-blow in the second half, but the Pokes could not overcome a 15-point halftime deficit and fell to the Spartans 94-79 in the consolation round.• In the seventh-place game, freshman Keiton Page scored a then-career-high 21 points and Obi Muonelo added 19 along with 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season to lead Oklahoma State past Siena 77-68.

►Cowboys In The Sunshine StateOSU has played 13 previous games in the state of Florida, and the Cowboys are 7-6 in the Sunshine state. On its last trip to Florida, Oklahoma State knocked No. 19 Florida State (then 9-0) from the ranks of the unbeaten on Dec. 16, 2017 in the Orange Bowl Classic at the BB&T Center in Sunrise. Senior Mitchell Solomon recorded the game-winning tip-in with 6 seconds remaining and then took a charge on the other end of the floor to preserve the 71-70 victory.

►Holiday Tourney SuccessSince 2013, OSU has had its fair share of success in November tournaments. The Cowboys are 13-4 in Thanksgiving week events, including titles in the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off and the 2014 MGM Grand Main Event. OSU also finished third in 2016 Maui Invitational and was the runner-up in the 2013 Old Spice Classic.
