    Everyone Wins With OJT!

    Partnering with the Department of EmploymentServices On-the-Job Training (OJT) initiative is asmart way to nd motivated individuals who are

    eager to return to work and gain new skills.

    OJT helps organizations stay competitive by reducingthe cost of hiring and training workers. The programreimburses employers 50 percent or more of a newhires gross wages during the training period.

    Employers determine job requirements, design

    training plans to meet individual business needsand make nal hiring decisions.

    OJT savings and services can give companies thecompetitive edge. Providing jobs for qualiedworkers who are unemployed is rewarding forbusinesses and our local economy.

    What is the On-the-Job Training Initiative?

    The On-the-Job Training initiative offers anancial incentive to employers for hiringDistrict residents experiencing long-termunemployment. An agreement is establishedbetween participating organizations and theDepartment of Employment Services that out-

    lines job details and training needs. The OJT participant is hired as a permanent,full-time employee receiving the same rate ofpay and benets as other employees doingsimilar work.

    The length of training cannot exceed sixmonths.

    What are the Benefts to Employers?

    Employers receive a pool of pre-screened, jobready candidates for the positions identied,resulting in human resource savings.

    Participating employers are reimbursed 50percent or more of gross wages paid duringthe training period.

    The Department of Employment Services will,at no cost provide up to six months of coach-ing by a workforce development specialist toensure retention.

    How are Applicants Selected?

    Applicants must be District of Columbiaresidents.

    The Department of Employment Servicesidenties applicants who meet the employerseligibility criteria.
