Congratulations to our2016 ScholarShip WinnerS

The Baldwin County Home Builders Association awarded $6,500 in annual scholarships to local students. Since 1997, the BCHBA has awarded scholarships to deserving students pursuing careers in the home building industry. Qualifying students must be enrolled in construction-related studies in a technical school or college. To date, the Association has awarded $79,300 in scholarships to help students in Baldwin County prepare for careers in the home building industry. The BCHBA’s 2016 Scholarship Committee included Barbara Fretwell, BCHBA Associate Council Chairwoman, Chris Bumpers, BCHBA Associate Council Treasurer and Fran Druse, BCHBA Executive Vice President.

Peyton Lindsey Peyton will be studying Construction Management and the University of Southern Mississippi. “I took carpentry classes last year to ensure that this is what I want my career to be. Construction is a great field for me to do something that I love doing for a living. I plan on majoring in building construction and eventually becoming a construction manager.” The son of Jeff and Karyn Lindsey of Spanish Fort, Peyton has been involved in school sports and has been pursuing a College Preparatory Diploma while attending Spanish Fort High School and has attended North Baldwin Tech and Faulkner State Community College in architecture and construction coursework.

Jordan JohnsonJordan intends to study Building Construction at Auburn University. “As I look at the world around me, I see countless acts of crime and hate. My personal belief is that this stems from the lack of a home. I believe when a person has a home, they have a place to feel safe. I feel that if I could make homes for people, I could make a huge difference in the life of that person, which in turn makes a difference in the lives of countless others.” the daughter of Larry and Vicki Johnson of Bay Minette, Jordan is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Model United Nations. She has a heart for missions and spends a great deal of time giving back to her community through church groups and community service projects.

Alex HolobaughAlex will be attending the Samuel Gunn College of Engineering at Auburn University and plans to study Chemical Engineering. “Chemical engineers play a major role in the design of new construction materials. Chemists are vital to the construction of new paints, polymers and materials designed to withstand more heat or last longer. I plan to work on the research and development side of the construction industry so I can help bring these innovations to the forefront of homebuilding.” the son of Tracy and Deborah Holobaugh of Fairhope, Alex is an Eagle Scout, has been active in band at Fairhope High School, is a member of the National Honor Society and earned an AP Scholar Award.

Jackson White Jackson plans to pursue Building Science at Auburn University. “I always held a strong interest in building things. I want to build homes. I have always been interested in architecture and design, but felt that working from behind a desk wasn’t for me. I would like to have the opportunity to further my studies so that I will have a strong foundation and background for the residential building career. I want to become a well-known builder.” The son of Blake and Theresa White of Fairhope, Jackson is a member of the National Honor Society and was active in varsity sports at Bayside Academy He is an outdoorsman and works with Prodisee Pantry.

Clay PitmanClay is currently enrolled at Auburn University and is attending classes in Civil Engineering since Fall of 2014. “By choosing this educational path, I could have a part in the construction industry but also concentrate on the dirt work and foundations of buildings and roads. This type of work interests me because it is the base and foundation that provides stability and structure to any road and building.” The son of Cliff and Jody Pitman of Fairhope, Alabama, Clay is an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Auburn University and was a member of the National Honor Society in High School. Clay is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and fishing and is pursuing his private pilot’s license.

Anniestacia MiskelAnniestacia dreams of being a construction managing civil engineer and has been studying Civil Engineering at the University of South Alabama. since 2014. “My dream of becoming a civil engineer was like a slow unexpected puzzle that was put together before me without me realizing it. Starting college the puzzle was more visible to me. This “puzzle”, I’m learning has no bounds and I’m convinced it will continue growing into a career greater than I could have ever imagined.” The daughter of Roscoe and Dorthea Miskel of Bay Minette, Anniestacia is active in the National Society of Black Engineers, College of Engineering Ambassadors. She is a mentor for black students who dream of pursuing higher education.
