OUR LEGACYThe Pupkewitz Group of Companies is a recognised contributor to key sectors of the Namibian economy, serving various retail segments through its four trading divisions, namely Pupkewitz MegaBuild and Builder’s Warehouse, Pupkewitz Motors, Pupkewitz MegaTech, and Pupkewitz Catering Supplies.

These businesses are founded on a rich history of entrepreneurship, dating back to 1904 when Max Pupkewitz started a wagon-building business at Okahandja and established a general dealer at Ausspannplatz in 1925. The late Harold Pupkewitz followed in his father’s footsteps and turned the Group into the market leader that it is today.

GROUP PHILOSOPHYWe support entrepreneurship on the premise that small and medium enterprise (SME) development is of key importance in creating jobs, reducing unemployment and advancing broad-based economic empowerment.

This is evident in the active involvement of Pupkewitz Megabuild and Pupkewitz Megatech in the development of 500+ emerging SMEs in retail trading operations with previously disadvantaged Namibian entrepreneurs, mainly in the rural areas. The Group is constantly looking to source local supply, where the quality of the product, continuity of supply and price competitiveness of the product can be guaranteed.

The Group’s uniquely Namibian view on business and intimate knowledge of the Namibian business landscape provide it with the competitive advantage of understanding the customer. As a proudly Namibian company the Group is fully aligned with the government’s development goals.

“THERE ISNO GREATER ASSET

PROTECT THE EARTH TODAY FOR OUR CHILDREN TOMORROW 2016-2020In wildlife conservation we have made an impact with donations of all-terrain vehicles to the Legal Assistance Centre and the Protected Resources Unit of the Namibian Police Force, and a Nissan NP300 to the AfriCat Foundation.

In environmental education our aim is to increase awareness and promote greater tolerance of large carnivores in order to find practical solutions to human-wildlife conflict. Furthermore, this initiative will support crucial desert research focusing on measuring the environmental footprint of energy, water, waste and biodiversity. Our environmental education programme reaches 30 000 children and young adults every year. We continue to assist in establishing community gardens countrywide since 2011. TOTAL INVESTMENT: N$1 944 000.00

EDUCATION IS OUR PASSPORT TO THE FUTURE2016-2020Annual funding is targeted at improving national teaching standards in science and mathematics through the Annual Maths Congress. We provide good foundational preparation to Grade 10 and 12 pupils in the Erongo and Khomas regions for the high-stakes external examinations in mathematics and science through the annual Pupkewitz Maths Spring Schools. We provide afterschool care and support for Grade 10 to Grade 12 children from vulnerable communities. Through our Classroom Building Programme we have built 18 classrooms and five storerooms, eliminating the double-session system at five schools in the last four years. The Pupkewitz Foundation has been instrumental in supporting platforms for disadvantaged children, such as afterschool centres to prevent school dropouts. Two organisations transforming the lives of our young people through their afterschool centres are the Katutura Youth Enterprise Centre (KAYEC) and Physically Active Youth (PAY). We maintain school buildings through our school renovation programme and we support opportunities for vocational education and training (VET). We address the literacy and numeracy challenge through digital libraries introduced at 11 schools in the country as part of the pilot study.TOTAL INVESTMENT: N$11 137 800.00 THE GREATEST WEALTH IS HEALTH

2016-2020We are involved in initiatives that provide access to healthcare, especially in remote regions, through recommended projects such as the UNICEF/Ministry of Health and Social Services Health Community Workers programme which provides basic clinic services. Another flagship project is the Otjomuru Community Clinic and nurses’ home in the Kunene Region, a project of Dr. Libertina Amathila and funded by the Pupkewitz Foundation. The community clinic provides health services to 1000 members of a marginalised community living in the Zebra Mountains.

We address sound mental development through improved nutrition in early childhood development, as well as improving sanitation for schoolchildren. The Namibian Children’s Heart Research Foundation was founded by the late Mr. Harold Pupkewitz, together with cardiologists and heart surgeons, to benefit 30 000 children annually. TOTAL INVESTMENT N$3 355 000.00

COMMUNITY CARE, LOCALS SUPPORTING LOCALS2016-2020The Pupkewitz Foundation partnered with two other private-sector entities, the FNB Foundation and Ohorongo Cement, each donating N$1 million every year for three years (2016-2019) to the Shack Dwellers Federation for the building of 364 houses countrywide.

The Ethel Pupkewitz Feeding Scheme is a Pupkewitz Foundation initiative promoting early childhood development through nutritious feeding once a week. Staff volunteers deliver milk, eggs and fruit to 3 000 children in towns where we have branches. The Ethel Pupkewitz Feeding Scheme will celebrate its fourth birthday in July 2019 and the Pupkewitz Foundation has allocated N$4 million to be spent on nutritious food over a period of four years. TOTAL INVESTMENT: N$8 690 000.00

PUPKEWITZ FOUNDATION Key to the Pupkewitz Foundation’s strategy are deliberate partnerships with government and reputable non-profit organisations whose development goals are aimed at viable, innovative and sustainable solutions in response to national and global priorities. The Foundation’s projects are therefore aimed at addressing social and economic disparities and responding to the government’s developmental priorities. Programmes are implemented within the following focus areas: Education, Health, Community Care, Environment, Culture & Sport.

We influence the lives of one million Namibians through our investment in 43 projects. The Pupkewitz Foundation is funded by our businesses and the Pupkewitz family.
