Tyler has shared with us what is currently important in her life at Playing & Learning Together

Tyler is really enjoying 'mark making' at the

moment. This was out on the patio last week.

Here she made a circle first and then

'coloured' in the middle. This activity kept her

attention for ten minutes. Other children were

nearby but she didn't get involved, just

participated in the same sort of activity. This

is called parallel play and common at her age.

Inside, Tyler continues to 'mark make'. At the

moment she is making lots of master pieces.

However, it is the 'taking part' she is

interested in rather than the 'picture' at the

end. Here she noticed that the yellow and

blue paint provided, when mixed together it

made green. She used the whole paper and

stayed at the activity until most of the paper

was filled.

Tyler enjoys cooking. We cook every week

and she is always a keen participant. Here

we are making biscuits. Carefully, she

ensured all the flour was fully mixed together.

She managed holding the bowl and to stir at

the same time, in circular clockwise

movements.

UNDERSTANDING

SPEAKING

NEXT IMMEDIATE STEPS

Can tell first name and surname; use props in play, such as, phones and songs that prompt

Tyler to say her full name. Encourage through games, sensitive questioning, songs and

discussion with others.

Wiggle tongue side to side quickly; doing this in front of a mirror would be a good idea so Tyler

can see what she is doing. Adult to demonstrate for her to copy. This will strengthen her

muscles for good diction.

Fills in the missing word in a story; a repetitive story might be best for this, such as ‘We’re going

on a bear hunt’, read the story to Tyler encouraging her to first join in with you and then fill in the

word you don’t say, using the picture for ideas if needed.

Tyler has shared with us what is currently important in her life at home

On Sundays, we generally go to feed the

ducks. The pavements allow for her to pedal

by herself. Generally she comes home very

tired and needs a rest before tea. So tea and

bedtime get a bit delayed. Good family time

though.

Tyler likes being outside. As a family we

spend lots of time outside gardening and she

enjoys pottering about. This is Tyler picking

flowers for grandma's birthday - she made

potpurie as there were more heads than

stalks.

This is Jessie. Tyler absolutely adores her

and Jessie tolerates Tyler! She can be quite

rough with her and squeeze her a bit tight.

Hence the recent scratches!

INFORMATION FROM 'OTHER' PEOPLE

Tyler is good at :-

Mrs Smith (Tyler's Child minder)- Sitting at activities for long spells. Drawing. Lacing toys.

Playing ball outside; can catch from short distance and throw underarm.

Helen Brown (SALT) Her speech and language has improved a great deal since I began to

see her last year. I anticipate, she will not need further appointments after the next one in

April. She is now in line with her chronological age in all aspects. When calm her speech is

comprehensible.

Tyler particularly enjoys and is interested in :-

Mrs Smith - While here, we spend a lot of time with puzzles and construction toys, which she

loves. We read a lot and she likes singing.

Helen Brown - Generally, Tyler enjoys her appointment time. She plays with the toys and is

generally co-operative.

Any other comments or worries expressed :-

Mrs Smith - Going through the 'terrible twos' stage at the moment.

Helen Brown - It has been great to work with such a supportive family and Tyler has made so

much progress due to their dedication in helping her between appointments.

NOTES ARISING FROM THE MEETING

Meeting comments

Tyler's parents; Doreen and Alistair Green are pleased with her progress. Especially the

progress she has made with her Communication and Language Development and the Speech

Therapist's comment. Their concerns are over Tyler's current behaviour/. They accept this is

normal for her age but wish to support Tyler with this. I have offered to lend some more

challenging puzzles, so Tyler can take these to Mrs Smiths, as she isn't interested in doing

jigsaws here at Playing and Learning Together.

Agreed actions following the review

We discussed this at length and we have agreed to try to be consistent by giving her two

choices backed up with how she will be rewarded afterwards with something positive for

herself. To give her time to process her thoughts, to help her communicate rather than to

throw a tantrum.

Further comments from parents / carers

Doreen added she is going to let us know how it goes via the communication jotter on her

EASY@home software.

Attendees at the meeting
