Performance Notes

Mozart (3): Go for a refined, elegant, “Mozartean” sound. The dynamic of forte should reflect brilliance more than mere volume.

Beethoven (4): Pay close attention to the dotted-eighth-and-sixteenth figure while retaining the quality of piano dolce. (It should neither sound like a triplet quarter-and-eighth nor a double-dotted-eighth-and-thirty-second.) The forte should sound subito (preferably without excessive vibrato) and should remain throughout the entire measure.

Stravinsky (6): Triplets at figure 75 should be "off "the string but the 16ths should be "on". I recommend second position throughout a good part of the passage with occasional extensions back with the first finger for the "E or Mi" in the 16th passages).

Stravinsky (8a): 16th notes should be crisp and slightly off the string. Each decrescendo should start again from

piano.

Stravinsky (8b): Dynamic: mp

Stravinsky (8c): Pay close attention to pitch. Do not let vibrato get too wide.

Stravinsky (8d): Pay close attention to rhythm which should be absolutely metronomic. note the dynamic of pp.

Enesco (9): Solo part should sound gypsy-like with LIGHT rubato while still being in rhythm for large beats.
