Everyone want’s to look amazing in their wedding photographs. Here are 20 simple ways for you to make sure you look your best.

- Have an engagement shoot Most people say they hate having their photo taken, so you’ll need to get used to being in front of the camera and posing before your wedding day. The best way to achieve this is by arranging an engagement or pre-wedding shoot with your photographer.

- - Chat lots and have meetings Once you’ve discovered a photographer that you like it’s important to go and meet them face to face. You’ll get a feeling then as to whether you’re going to get along.

- Laugh rather than force a smile Not everyone feels confident in front of the camera so remember, ‘It’s always better to laugh than smile.’ Tell silly jokes with your husband to make you laugh.

- Are you ready for your close-up? Tell your photographer if you have a preferred side of your face or body. This isn’t being vain, it’s about you knowing your body. If your photographer knows then they will be able to work with it.

- Visit your venue Be sure your photographer does a venue visit with you to find out the best locations to have photos taken. This will minimise the time you spend away from your guests and you can make a plan for bad weather.

- Have a schedule You don’t want to be stressing and running around trying to organise things as you’ll end up looking flustered. Get ushers and the Best Man to round up guests for group shots.

- Choose a nice light venue Rooms with low ceilings can be dark, so avoid these if you can. Also for your getting ready shots, choose a room with lots of windows and sit near to them for hair and make-up

- - Hold something Often couples say, ‘I don’t know what to do with my hands.’ Well for the girls it’s best to hold your bouquet. You can also lean on your new husband and wrap your arms around him.

- Practice makes perfect Spend some time before the big day practising how you’ll stand together in ways that will flatter you both. Show your photographer some pictures you like from magazines.

- In the build up Settling in to a good skincare and dietary routine are both essential to get your skin dazzling on the big day. Get lots of sleep, drink plenty of water and visit your dentist for regular check ups.

- Easy on the bubbles The bubbles in Champagne can go to your head pretty quickly, and it’s not ideal to have squiffy eyes in all your wedding photographs. Take it steady until you’ve had your photographs done.

- Troublesome arms Many brides feel anxious about the way their upper arms appear. Try not to stand with your arms hanging down by your sides. Putting your hands on your hips will help. If you’re leaning on something, brush it, don’t squish.

- Perfect posture Think ‘long,’ when you’re standing, elongate your body, extend your chin and envisage pulling your belly button back towards your spine without looking like you’re holding your breath.

- Hair heaven Unless you’re going to have a hairdresser on hand all day long, your bridal do will be prone to falling out. Check yourself in the mirror before photos. Get a bridesmaid to arrange your veil for you while you’re having your photographs taken.

- - Mobile make up Arm another bridesmaid with blotting paper, lip gloss, powder and a hairbrush so you can touch up your bridal look during the day.

- Embrace the fake bake Right boys this one is for you. There’s no shame in splashing on a little bit of tanning moisturiser to give you a healthy glow. Famous Dave’s Gradual 10 is a good one. Don’t worry, you don’t lose any man points for this.

- Hands on Your photographer will probably want to take pics of your hands at some point. Suzanne Winstanley, Creator of Happiness at Castlefield Clinic advises investing in a great hand cream and applying every day for as long as you can.

- Suits you sir This is another one for the boys. If your budget will stretch to getting a bespoke suit then go for it. It’s not as expensive as you might think and it means everything will sit right when you’re having your photographs taken.

- - A healthy glow Having healthy looking skin can make a massive difference to your photographs. Suzanne from Castlefield Clinic says that exfoliating every other day for 1 week followed by a great moisturiser will illuminate your skin.

- Avoid sunbeds the week before Using a sunbed the week before your wedding can make you look sallow and yellow according to Suzanne Winstanley. Girls, top up your tan with a fake bake but don’t over do it. Natural beauty always looks the best.
