Competitive Overview cont’d

Why Excursion?

1. Excursion has more head room, shoulder room and leg room than 1999 Suburban.

2. Excursion offers up to 10,000 lbs. of towing capacity as standard.

3. Excursion has an automatic tow-haul feature, which enables the transmission to adjust power and shifting to

compensate for hilly terrain, changes in altitude or when towing heavy loads.

4. Excursion has more cargo volume than 1999 Suburban.

– 1.1 cubic feet more behind the third row.

– 11.7 cubic feet more behind the second row.

– 15.5 cubic feet more behind the first row.

5. Excursion has a “no-compromise” rear-door solution with its rear tri-panel door and standard intermittent

rear wiper.

6. Excursion has the flexibility of a third-row seat on rollers and dual tip/slide second-row seats.

7. The second-row seats are also independent reclining (a segment exclusive).

Finally there’s a vehicle capable of taking the kids, their friends and all their stuff — plus tow the boat — on a weekend to the lake.

There are so many thoughtful features in Excursion — like the rear tri-panel door and Reverse Sensing System.(1)

Excursion not only has features to protect its occupants in a collision, it’s also the only heavy-duty wagon with front and rear bumpers designed specifically

to match a passenger car’s bumper in a collision.

Excursion has the towing and payload capacity of a heavy-duty truck, but also features a high level of amenities.

0Environment

Low Emission Vehicle (LEV)• All three Excursion engines will meet federal

Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards

• Excursion produces up to 43 percent fewer

smog-forming hydrocarbon exhaust emissions

than permitted by U.S. regulations

• All Excursion engines also will meet the stricter

California Low Emission Vehicle standard for

light trucks

Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs)• A 25-unit demonstration fleet of Excursion

models fueled by liquid propane gas (LPG) will

be produced

• These vehicles are expected to meet Super Ultra

Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) standards

• As SULEVs, these vehicles would have up to

62 percent lower emissions than a gasoline-

powered Chevrolet or GMC Suburban

Fuel economy• Gasoline engine fuel economy targets are

competitive with Chevrolet Suburban

• The optional diesel engine fuel economy targets

are even more competitive

• Excursion is more fuel-efficient — with more

passenger- and cargo-carrying capacity — than

two average full-size sedans capable of

transporting equivalent loads

• Ford market research shows the heavy-duty utility

customer who would buy Excursion is twice as

likely to haul five to seven passengers as a full-size

SUV owner, and is almost four times more likely

than a compact SUV owner

Recyclability• Nearly 20 percent of Excursion is made from

recycled materials, including various steel,

aluminum, rubber and plastic parts

• More than 80 percent of the vehicle is recyclable

by weight

• Roughly 180,000 lbs. of bottle caps and cotton bale

wrappers will be used each year to create Excursion

air conditioning components, air cleaner housings

and glove compartment components

• Carpet will be recycled to create air cleaner covers

• More than 1 million two-liter soda pop bottles will

be recycled annually to create Excursion quarter

window glass frames

• More than 100,000 scrap battery cases will be

used in the annual production of Excursion fender

shields, battery cases and accelerator pedals

• Annually, more than 12,000 passenger car tires

will be recycled and used to make Excursion air

deflectors and splash shields

This year’s Source Book presents Excursionfeatures and benefits in six key purchasemotivator categories. These categories – Environment, Performance/Handling,Comfort/Convenience, Safety/Security, Quality/Reliability/Durability and Design/Styling — are provided in each vehicle section of this book.Their length and order may vary, depending on their relevance to theindividual vehicle. This format replaces the previous six-positionWalkaround, and allows you to easily find and present information as it relates to the customer

inside the vehicle and to shift into or out of four-

wheel drive at up to 55 mph or at a standstill

• To disengage, driver may maintain current

speed without having to stop or travel in a

reverse direction

• PVH allows total disengagement of the front

wheels, resulting in optimized 4x2 performance

• Excursion models feature manual override

capability. This permits the driver to lock the hubs

at the front wheels if necessary

• No shift delays in cold weather

• This system optimizes fuel economy because all

front driveline components are disconnected at

the wheels in the 4x2 mode

• The PVH system does not require regular front

axle/wheel-end service intervals (under normal

driving conditions)

• Repair costs are expected to be reduced due to the

simplicity of design

Explain how the rotary dial has three settings: 2WD, 4WD HIGH and 4WD LOW. Demonstrate how to shift from

2WD to 4WD HIGH and back simply by turning the rotary dial. Thisshift can be done at almost any speed. With customers who may beused to hearing the 4x4 system engage, explain that this shift isvirtually silent.

Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System(ABS)Standard on all models

• Designed to eliminate wheel lockup in many severebraking situations, under a variety of weatherconditions

• When impending wheel lockup is detected, thesystem automatically “pumps” the brakes on thelocking wheel(s) several times per second, preventing the wheel or wheels from locking and giving the tires added traction for slowing the vehicle

• The action of the electric pump can be heard as arapid “clicking” sound, and a faint pulse can oftenbe felt through the brake pedal — this is normaland indicates that the system is operating asintended

• Four-wheel ABS also improves steering controlwhile braking

If space is available, demonstrate ABS in your parking lot oron an empty stretch of roadway. Apply the brakes quickly and

have the customer listen for unfamiliar sounds associated with ABS.Then have the customer test the ABS to familiarize themselves with thenormal brake pedal pulsation.

consumers. In fact, many customers may be

more interested in the quality of a vehicle’s

sound system than in many other features.

Don’t be surprised if the audio system is the

first feature a customer tries out on a test-drive.

Because a vehicle’s audio system is such an

important factor in the purchase decision,

Excursion offers a wide range of audio systems

to satisfy the needs of everyone.
