The sleek, compact and lightweight Hornet has won a rabid following in the twoyears since its introduction for its bare-bones look of spare 'streetfighter' bravado,and the sharp, powerful performance to back it up. Shorn of all but the fundamen-tals of aggressive sport-riding enjoyment, the Hornet has also grown increasinglypopular as a 'one-make' racer that provides big-time excitement and winningtrack performance at a relatively reasonable cost. Because of this unexpectedboom in popularity, the new Year 2000 Hornet receives several improvements to its performance and handling that will see it winning not only the hearts andminds of European 'naked sport' bike lovers, but also quite a few races as well.

More than any other machine, the Hornet epitomises the definitionof the roadster. It does so literally,exulting it to a new realm of excel-lence. As proof of this, the engine is nothing less than the one in the CBR600F super sports bike and the wheels are those used onthe CBR900RR Fireblade. As forthe weight to power ratio (95.3PS

for 176kg) it is by far the best in itscategory. CBR600F and has been revisedto give maximum response atlow and average revs and for usein the broadest context possible.

• Lightweight, narrow at saddle-height and with refined ergono-mics, the Hornet is ideal for allriders, big and small.

• Two wide diameter (296mm)disc brakes with dual pistons at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear provide a tenaciousand powerful braking capacity.

• With a short wheel base, ultra-rigid “Mono-Backbone” frame,single adjustable rear shock-

absorber, the Hornet combinesthe efficiency of a sports bikewith the comfort of a roadster.

• Its wide section rims carry high-performance tyres.

• The 4-in-2-in-1 exhaust system ismade of stainless steel, guaranteedto last a long time. The silenceris set very high and sounds asgood as it looks.

• A capacious glove box (3 litres)opens at the side from under theseat.

• A large aluminium grip surroundsthe seat and keeps the passengertightly in place.
