Your Master of Ceremonies This EveningCharles Osgood

Dubbed CBS News’ poet-in-residence, Charles Osgood has been anchor of CBS News SundayMorning since 1994. He also anchors and writes The Osgood File, his daily news commentarybroadcast on the CBS Radio Network. His commentaries have drawn one of the largest audiences of any network radio feature.

Welcome! This evening’s awards dinner and presentation culminates more than a year of work in designing,

organizing, promoting, and staging a program that we hoped would become “the business world’sown Oscar Awards,” as The New York Post called it.

The Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the efforts, accom-plishments, and positive contributions of companies and business people worldwide. Beginning withthe introduction of The American Business AwardsSM in 2002, and The International Business AwardsSM

in 2003, our mission is to raise the profile of exemplary companies and individuals among the press, the business community, and the general public.

The 2003 American Business Awards attracted 489 nominations from 321 companies nationwide, in virtually every industry. Those are impressive figures for a first-time program, especially in an environment of such economic uncertainty, and there are many people to thank for helping to make itsuch a success.

First, I want to thank my family for their encouragement and patience. Second, I thank our spon-sors for their support and advice. Third, I thank the members of the Board of Distinguished Judges &Advisors and all of the professionals nationwide who participated in the judging process. And last butnot least, I want to thank all of the small American businesses who have helped to bring The StevieAwards to life, from Access National Bank, which provided the start-up financing, to Aztech Graphics,Corniche Productions, Open-i Media, Pantheon Software, and a host of others.

Enjoy the evening!
