For many years our industry hasrecognised the challenge of correctlyintegrating the individual components ofcamera, lens and illumination to achieveeffective night-time CCTV. This is acomplex task, even for the mostexperienced CCTV engineer. There are manyfine details to get right when matchingcomponents to deliver optimumperformance.

The IDN™ (Integrated Day Night) range ofcameras from Extreme CCTV delivers acomplete, integrated surveillance solution,in a single, "plug and play" product.

Delivering optimum performance isundoubtedly the aim of every CCTV systemdesigner and engineer. All too often however, theset-up is compromised by a single componentand a system is only as strong as its weakest link.

Installation EssentialsLighting is key when designing a CCTV system whichworks at night, after all, without light there can beno picture. It is no good however, simply spreadinglight on the scene in an unscientific way in the hopeof capturing an image, neither should you rely solelyon existing lighting. This is an approach we refer toas "plug and pray" – you might get lucky and get adecent picture, but chances are you won’t. Not givingadequate attention to the lighting on scene can leaveyou with noisy, poor quality night-time images.

When designing a CCTV system which deliversoptimum night-time performance there are twooptions available:

Often installers need to combine components fromdifferent manufacturers, in doing this the installer

must work out the optimum relationship between camera, lens and any ambient and Infrared lighting.

Installers should consider the following:� The spectral response of the camera to the light

on scene or the Infrared illuminator� Lens sensitivity, focus shift and the effect of

the aperture� The angle and spread of the light - this must be

matched to the horizontal angle of view of the camera.� Aim for even-illumination across the whole scene.� The light must switch on at the appropriate time.

Achievable distanceThe Extreme IDN™ range is targeted at the CCTVmarket for applications ranging from 1 to 60 metres,under any lighting conditions. The achievablesurveillance distance of these products can easilycover the perimeter of most residential, commercialand industrial applications.Often in traditional CCTV set-ups illumination ismis-matched or omitted completely from thespecification, meaning systems fail to deliver therequired night-time performance. We have benchmarked the Extreme CCTV IDN™ product range againstminimum performance guidelines published by the Police Scientific Development Branch (PSDB) in the UK. Product Description

The EB Series of cameras and illuminators allowseffective day/night surveillance for access controlenhancement. The EB-S300 camera is excellent forlow light and no-light performance in the Infra-Red.

The unique simple-to-install camera is fitted withpan/tilt adjustable hardware. All lenses from 2.9 mm to12 mm are possible. A dark red optical screen makesthis camera effectively discreet.

The EB-IR is a unique Infra-Red illuminator comprisingof 30 high efficiency LEDs at 850nm or 940nm. Avariable resistor operates as a “dimmer” to allow theinstaller to control the light to optimize the picturerequired at the distance desired. The EB-IR is alsopan/tilt adjustable. Surveillance from 1 foot to 20 feetcan be expected.

The EB-IR is registered with a US Patent Pendingstatus.

The EX26NX Night Vision Camera integrates ExtremeCCTV’s LXR sensor in full 1/3” format with 24 highoutput LED Infra-Red illuminators. LXR sensors areknown for superb performance under bright light andInfra-Red light conditions. The goal of maximizingnight performance with only 24 LEDs has beenachieved in the EX26NX with surprising andimpressive results. Less than 7 Watts of power isrequired from this compact camera to achieve nightvision beyond 50 feet (15 m), using 850 nm LED’s.

The smooth compact housing allows for tight installationswithout any exposed wiring, making this unit very difficult tovandalize. CNG™

Conical No Grip™. Hi-Impact Dome Camera that is

impossible to grip.. Promotes safety, is ideal for prisons

and hospitals where camera design must consider

suicide prevention. Impossible for objects, people or

animals to hang, grip or perch from.

Covert

Concealed, done secretly. Infrared when emitted

beyond 950nm can be considered totally covert. Lamps

do not appear to be on when viewed by the human

eye. It is important to ensure that camera sensitivity is

sufficient at this level.

IDN™

Integrated Day Night. Designed specifically for a

relentless 24/7 digital world, a new category of

camera pioneered by Extreme CCTV. Integrated into a

single housing, IDN™ cameras create light, capture

light and control the light to ensure a high-signal/low-

noise picture under all day and night conditions. All

IDN™ products include housing, camera, lens, LED’s

and control circuits.

Infrared or IR

Used for night-time CCTV surveillance internally and

externally. Infrared (IR) is light the human eye cannot

see but which the monochrome camera can see. When

IR lamps are used in conjunction with mono CCTV

cameras, the camera is given the ability to see where

the human eye cannot.

LED (Light Emitting Diode)

Solid state, long life electronic component which

produces light when stimulated by electricity. Often

used in Infrared night-time applications when long

product life and low maintenance is required.

Monochrome (Mono)

Black and white, not colour. When Infrared is used in

conjunction with mono CCTV cameras, the camera is

given the ability to see where the human eye cannot.

MECC™

MECC stands for Modular Expandable Control

Components. These are IDN™ cameras from Extreme

CCTV with the option of extreme versatility and

expandability due to a series of Modular Expandable

Control Components like RF transmitters, IP boards

Photocell

Automatically switches on Infrared lights when light

fall to a preset level.

Quattro

A unique Day Night 24 hour camera which integrates

a single colour, mono and IR sensitive CCTV chip, with

IR illumination, in a solid state design with no

mechanical moving parts. Quattro cameras are

optimised for night-time operation, certain models do

not include LED illumination due to size limitations.

Reflectance

The ratio of light returned from a surface expressed as

a percentage. Some items are highly reflective to IR

light and therefore appear brighter, like trees, grass,

snow and natural fibres. Some items absorb IR light

and appear darker, manmade fibres like nylon for
