At his death in 1983, he had taken the biweekly Tupelo Journal with less than 5,000 circulation to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Jour- nal with more than 33,000 circulation. TERMS OF PAYMENTa. Payments for advertising are due the 10th

day of each month. A 1.5 percent permonth service charge will be added on allaccounts past due. No discounts allowed.Failure to pay advertising bill within 60days makes contract subject to cancellationby the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journaland the advertiser agrees to being re-billedat the OPEN RATE for all unpaid advertis-ing.

b. Accounts payable in advance, except forfirms or individuals with established creditwith the Daily Journal.

c. All “going out of business” accounts mustpay in advance unless there are multiplelocations.

d. All local rates are non-commissionable.

GENERAL POLICYa. Rate Increases: The Northeast Mississippi

Daily Journal may revise its advertising rateschedule at any time upon 30 days writtennotice to the advertiser. Once notified, theadvertiser may, without penalty, cancel itsadvertising contract at any time prior tothe time the new rates become effective byproviding written notice to The NortheastMississippi Daily Journal.

b. Advertising Subject to Approval: TheNortheast Mississippi Daily Journal reservesthe right to reject any and all advertisingsubmissions that it considers objectionableand containing materials that are subjectto content regulation and compliance withstate, federal or local law. Gaming ads ac-cepted upon content approval. Tobacco ad-vertisements not accepted. Alcohol bever-age advertising: beer accepted, liquor uponapproval of content.

c. Advertising simulating news can beset in body type, but must carry the word“Advertisement” at the top of the ad.

d. Advertising placed by groups, such asconcerned citizens must carry a contactname such as the president or chairman.

e. Mechanical Requirements - Minimumdepth for all advertising is one inch. Adver-tising exceeding 18 inches in depth are set

to occupy full column depth of 21 1/2” arecharged accordingly.

f. Position - Although position of an ad willnot be guaranteed, every effort will bemade to meet any reasonable request. Noposition in violation of standard rules.

g. Tax - Any advertising tax imposed on thepublisher will be added to the rates shownherein.

CONTRACT ANDCOPY REGULATIONSa. Contract Coverage: Contracts cover only

the advertising of the firm signing theagreement, and that firm shall be a retailadvertiser selling directly to the consumer,and be permanently located within thisnewspaper retail trade zone.

b. Cancellation or Termination: If duringthe period covered by a contract, the fullamount of revenue contracted for is notused, or if this contract is terminated be-cause of breach thereof by the advertiser,then the advertiser shall be “short rated”and shall pay for the space actually usedat the rates set forth on the rate card ofthe Publisher.

c. Deadlines/Mechanical Requirements:All copy and proof deadlines and require-ments must be observed. Proofs, whensubmitted, are for typographical correc-tions only. Changes from original copy willbe charged on the basis of the time re-quired to make such changes.

d. Error Responsibility: The Northeast Mis-sissippi Daily Journal assumes no financialresponsibility for typographical errors or foromission of copy beyond the cost of theirspace. Claims for adjustment must bemade within 7 days of publication. Creditallowable for first insertion only. In theevent of an error or omission, we will, up-on request, furnish a letter of explanationwhich can be utilized by the advertiser.

e. Indemnification: Advertiser agrees to in-demnify the Northeast Mississippi DailyJournal, its agents and assigns of and fromany and all loss, liability, claim, cause ofaction, lawsuit, damages of any type, attor-

neys fees and expenses and other relatedcosts as a result of the newspaper’s publi-cation of an advertisement or advertisingcampaign prepared by the advertiser or itsagents and submitted to The NortheastMississippi Daily Journal for publication.This agreement shall be performed at leastin part in the State of Mississippi whoselaws shall govern any dispute arising here-under. The Circuit Court of Lee County,Mississippi shall have the exclusive jurisdic-tion over any dispute arising under theterms and conditions of this Agreement.

f. Screens: Screens ranging from 85 to 100lines are required. Publisher not responsi-ble for reproduction quality of screensdenser than 100 lines.

g. Alteration Charges: A charge will bemade for excessive alterations (not causedby publisher’s mistake) which are made bythe advertiser.

h. Proofs: A maximum of one set of proofswill be furnished upon request on any ad-vertisement that meets the proof deadline(see Closing Times, Page 3) and is the re-quired size of 30 column inches or larger.

i. Copy and Material: The submission ofcopy should include all components of theadvertisement, including layout, copy, art,etc. Copy will be considered complete only

when all components of the advertisementare on hand.

j. Cancellations or Size Changes: Not ac-ceptable after 5 p.m. day of copy deadline.

4. Ads can be accepted on Mac compatibleCD’s. Please include a clean, legible hardcopy of any ad sent this way. If the ad is incolor, please try to send a color hard copy.

5. Software programs used and supported bythe Daily Journal Advertising staff include:QuarkXPress 6.52; Adobe PhotoShop CS2;and Adobe Illustrator CS2. We use Macin-tosh computers only.

6. The Journal has a large number of fonts

available, but we do not have every font inexistence. We are a networked, fully pagi-nated newspaper and our system cannothave new fonts constantly added to it.

7. Art formats that can be placed within theads include: TIFF’s, EPS, EPSF, LINEART(PICT) and JPG’s.

8. Please be sure your ad is the correct sizebefore you send it to us. Like most news-papers across the country, we havechanged our web width and therefore ourcolumn sizes. Please see Page 4 of this ratecard for new ad sizes.

or corrected before initial publication.

2. The publisher reserves the right to edit, reviseor reject an advertising copy which does notconform to its standard.
