General Information

Terms:

New accounts are established on a prepaid basis either by check or credit card. If prepayment is impractical or inconvenient for your business, credit card information will be expected with your order. COD is available for orders that are to be picked up at our facility. Please email or call for an estimate of charges that will be incurred if sending payment with an order. We accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover.

Open accounts are available upon approved credit and with valid credit card information on file. Monthly statements are sent showing all transactions, charges, credits and total amount due. Payment in full is due by the 10th day of the month. Service charges of 1.5% per month (18% annually) will be assessed on any unpaid balance after the 30th day of the month following billing.

Pricing:

All lab prices are based upon our suppliers established prices as of the date of this printing and are subject to change without notice.

Rush Charges:

In before noon, out before five PM the next business day add 100% Same day service add 200% Minimum rush charge $10.00

Shipping and Handling:

We Do Not charge a handling fee for each order placed with us. We ship using U.S. Priority Mail and other carriers as necessary. Orders shipped will be charged up to $5.00 for prints up to 11x14 inches, up to $8.00 for prints from 16x20 to 20x24 inches, and at shipping cost plus $5.00 over 20x24 inches We will try to batch orders to reduce shipping costs whenever practical. Pick-up and delivery may be available depending on location. We reserve the right to ship orders by alternate methods if deemed appropriate or necessary.

Returned Orders:

While we take great care to follow work orders precisely and produce an exceptional product, there may be an occasion when an order needs to be returned for reprinting or additional work. To insure that we are able to remake an order as quickly as possible we require the return of the work order envelope, the unacceptable print(s), negative(s) if optical, and the corresponding invoice. A notation as to the reason for the return should be included. If the reason concerns color and/or density, a sample print should be enclosed.

Missing Prints:

On the rare occasion that an order may be shipped incomplete, return only the work order envelope and the negative(s) if optical to be printed. Please include the original invoice and a print from the original order to serve as a color guide.

Limits of Liability:

West Michigan PhotoWorks takes great care to insure the safe handling of your film and prints. Our liability for loss or damage, however, is limited to the refund and/or replacement of an equivalent amount of unexposed film and processing. Except for such replacement, the handling of such film or prints by us is without warranty or liability even though damage or loss is caused by negligence or other fault.

Proofing

We provide only the highest quality proofing service. Each frame of film is video analyzed, the roll is test printed and evaluated, and corrections are made for minor variations in color and/or exposure. Proofs are printed to yield slightly warm skin tones. If a different color standard is desired, please provide guide prints and we will make every effort to meet your particular request.

Proofing is available from uncut film only and is printed on “E” surface Kodak paper. When submitting film for processing and proofing you may include all similar film types in one order ( i.e., Kodak 160NC+400NC+400VC), please DO NOT mix film formats ( i.e., 120/220 with 35mm or 6x7 with 6x4.5).

Each frame of film is video analyzed and the analyzer data, studio name and copyright symbol is printed on the back of the proof. The format for the printing is: Roll and frame number, analyzer information, studio name, ©, year. Cut negative proofs incur a charge of $1.50 each. We do not dust spot proofs. Upon request Spotting is available for an additional cost of $ .30 per frame.

Black & White Proof Pricing

Black & White proofs are available on two surfaces. E surface Kodak Black & White Portra paper yields consistent tones with a slightly warm cast. Pricing is above color pricing plus 20%. If you desire true Black & White paper, proofs are available on Kodak Polycontrast IV RC N surface paper. Pricing is color pricing plus 50%.

Sepia Tone Proofing

Sepia tone proofs are printed on monochromatic sepia paper and are available from black & white or color negatives at the time of processing. At the present time, only matte surface paper is available. Pricing is above color pricing plus 20%.

Color Package Printing (Portrait)

Standard Package Printing

Package printing is available from cut; carded negatives in 35mm and 120/220 film formats and include dust spotting of prints. Each negative is analyzed and tested. Prints will be matched to submitted proofs if requested and if proofed by WMPW. Film proofed outside of WMPW or negatives submitted without proofs will be printed to lab standard color and density. Artwork, lacquering and mounting are not included. Negatives that require masking are charged $.35 each. Negatives needing to be remasked will be charged $1.00 each. Package prints are returned in uncut units.

Black & White or Sepia Tone Package Printing

Black & White packages are printed on Kodak Portra Black & White (E surface only) paper. Sepia tone packages are printed on monochromatic paper (Oriental sepia satin or Kodak Sepia E) and are available from color or Black & White negatives. Pricing is the above color pricing plus 20%. Black & White package prints on Kodak Polycontrast RC paper are priced at above color pricing plus 50%.

Multi-Pose Package Special

Packages for families, seniors, models, pets or any single subject matter. A minimum of 17- 8x10 package units printed from up to 3 negatives from the same client sitting included within the same order envelope. Additional poses and units are available. Dust spotting is included. Other artwork and lacquering is additional. Special wallet options are available with the Multi-Pose package. Packages are returned as full-uncut units. Available in color or in Black & White at a 20% premium. Entire package must be either color or Black & White to qualify for Multi-Pose discount. Black & White units ordered with a color Multi-Pose Package will be charged at normal Black & White package prices.

Candids

Candid pricing is limited to individual or volume prints for weddings, parties, corporate events etc. Candid color printing is available from cut, carded negatives in 35mm and 120/220 film formats. Dust spotting is included, other artwork, lacquering and mounting is additional. Negatives that require masking will be charged $.35 each. Negatives needing remasking will be charged $1.00 each. Candid orders are returned trimmed by individual print. Wallets are returned die cut (rounded corners) upon request if ordered in multiples of 4 or 8, or are trimmed with square corners. Volume pricing is available for quantities from a single negative. Package orders cannot be mixed with candid orders in the same envelope.

Custom Portraits

Custom Portraits are printed from video analyzed negatives and include special cropping, dodging and/or burning if requested and dust spotting. Artwork, lacquering and mounting are not included. Custom portraits are available on matte (E) surface. Glossy surface (F) is available up to 16x20 sizes at a 10% premium. Black and White custom portraits printed on Black and White RC paper are available on matte surface or glossy surface up to 16x20 sizes at a 50% premium. Pricing for custom portraits is computed as follows:

Black & White Silver Printing

Fiber based silver gelatin prints are hand printed and archivally washed. Each print is printed to the artists’ specification including cropping and a reasonable amount of burning and dodging. Each image is printed and processed by hand, dust spotted, sized and cropped to specifications. Artwork, lacquering and mounting are not included. Samples of toned prints are available for your inspection. Please compare these to your desired finished product before specifying toning. Several papers are available; please specify a preference or we will print as we determine the best available paper for the image.

Volume Package Printing from Uncut Film

Proms, Banquets, Graduations, Reunions etc.

Volume package printing is available from uncut negatives only at the time of processing. A minimum of 10 printed frames per order and two 8x10 units per negative are required to qualify for volume pricing. Orders outside this requirement will be charged at package pricing. Dust spotting, artwork or lacquering is not included. Available in A(35mm) , D(6x4.5) or G(6x7) crop only. Lighting must be consistent within each order. Only one background per order. Prints are returned in uncut units. Negatives are returned uncut and sleeved with the printed units. Reorders are done as regular package prints. The process of selecting the best of duplicate shots or “editing” a roll of film is available at no charge.

Memory Mates - Team and Group Photos

Design your own packages from the available sizes. Pricing is for team or individual prints. One team photo (size 8x10 or 5x7) must be ordered for each individual. Memory Mate pricing is available only at the time of processing. Negatives are returned uncut and sleeved. Prints are returned in 8x10 unit blocks. Minimum of 10 printed frames per order. Reorders are done at candid pricing.

Finishing Services

Studio Overlay Creation

Studio overlays are available from your “camera-ready” artwork for $25.00. We can also work with you to select a font style that is unique to your studio and create overlays for your use. A charge of $.95 is added per negative when printing wallets. Sizing logos or layout work is quoted separately. Studio overlays are available optically on C, D, E or G crop sizes, and on any size digitally

Lacquering of Prints

Lacquer is available in Luster, Texture or hand applied Brush Stroke. Glossy is available for 16x20 competition prints only. Most of our work is finished in Luster. This coating protects the print with a stronger finish, forms a waterproof barrier and contains a UV inhibitor to reduce possible fading. All positive artwork and airbrushing requires protection of this type.

Stripping and Cleaning

Stripping and cleaning a print may be required if a customer requests additional artwork on a lacquered print. The print coating is removed, the artwork is done and relacquering is provided at the above rates. WMPW will use its best efforts to remove lacquer and/or embossing without damaging the print, if however this is not able to be done, the customer is responsible for the cost of reprinting prior to the additional services. Charges exclusive of art are as follows:

Studio Name Embossing

Studio name embossing on enlargements is available in gold or silver foil at a cost of $.80 per print. A studio plate is required at a cost of $45.00. Unless directed, color prints are embossed in gold, black & white prints in silver.

Mounting

Prints can be mounted to your specification on standard mount board, Gatorfoam board, styrene or Art Board. Canvas Giclée prints can be stretched. See below for pricing and availability. Pricing for other sizes will be based on the next larger size.

Special Services

Positive Artwork on Prints

Positive artwork on prints is charged at $39.00 per hour or $.65 per minute. Positive art is helpful for glass glare, stray hair etc. Changing the color of sky or water (large or small areas) is done by oils and is billed at $60.00 per hour or $1.00 per minute. Minimum charge for artwork is 10 minutes. Note: All prints with positive artwork require a lacquer coating for proper display and finishing. Lacquer cost is additional. Unless directed we will use luster lacquer to coat all prints with positive artwork.

An important note regarding positive art and retouching. An area or spot that is light or white on the print can usually be corrected with positive artwork on the finished print. If the area or spot is not white or very light, the area will have to be opaqued on the negative so the area prints white, then artwork can be done on the finished print. On a finished print a light area can be made darker, but a dark area cannot be made lighter

Hand Coloring or Oil Painting of Black & White Prints

The hand coloring or oil painting of your black & white print can achieve a unique portrait. A contemporary style can be achieved by enhancing a print done on matte “E” surface paper. A traditional or classical style can be achieved by enhancing a print on salon fiber based paper or on Giclée FA prints. Call with questions or for estimates of time for a specific project. Please Note: Light areas of a print can be colored with dyes, pencil or washes, dark areas must be oil colored. We have display samples with time estimates available for viewing at our offices. Enhancement of Black & White prints with hand coloring or oil painting is charged at $60.00 per hour or $1.00 per minute.

Copy Negatives

Copy negatives can be produced from flat art or photos in color or black & white in 120/220 film format. The cost is $20.00 for each copy negative. Prints from copy negatives are additional.

Kodak Film

We carry fresh Kodak film for sale to our customers. Please call for pricing and availability. Minimum purchase amount of one Pro-Pack. We currently stock 160NC, 400NC, 160VC, 400VC, and 400UC in 120/220 and 35mm formats and TCN Black & White (Black & White C-41) in 120/220 and 35mm format. We also stock 100TMAX in 120 and 35mm along with Kodak HIE High Speed Infra-Red film in 35mmx36. Other Kodak films may be available upon request.

Digital Printing Services General Information

Digital Imaging Services

WMPW uses state of the art scanning, manipulation and printing equipment in order to provide our customers with the highest quality work that is available today. We rely primarily on Kodak® products to provide consistent results with the Kodak Lifetime Print© guaranty. Our imaging staff is experienced and award winning. Please stop in or call with any questions.

Working with WMPW Imaging

• You may submit processed or unprocessed film, negatives, transparencies or imaging files for digital output or enhancement.

• Color and/or Black & White negatives or positives sized from 35mm to 4”x5”.

• Files maybe submitted on CD or DVD saved as RGB.tif files or highest quality JPEG. Our ftp service is available for digital file transmission. Consult our website for details.

• Files submitted for printing must be dust spotted. Art time will be charged to spot file submitted prints.

• Files will be archived for approximately 90 days at no charge.

• Files can be from a Mac or PC platform, please specify if not PC.

• Enhanced images can be printed or burned to CD.

• Negatives for digital proofing must be uncut whole rolls. Digital proofing is unavailable from cut negatives.

• All cut negatives must be masked, slides must be mounted; a $1.00 per negative charge will be imposed for unmasked negatives.

• Digital Art time is calculated at approximately $70.00 per hour.

• Please mark “Digital” on your order envelope.

• Quotes may be requested for any service not listed in our service menu. Art charges estimated at less than $30.00 will be completed without a call back.

• Special cropping of images is available at $6.00 per file.

• Contrast boosting is available for severely underexposed files at $6.00 per image.

Digital Printing Services

Direct-to-Print Digital Printing

Digital Files submitted for Direct-to-Print services will be printed without color or density corrections. Orders may be submitted as RGB.tif files or high quality JPEG files. No reprints will be done for color, contrast or density. Orders may be submitted as package or single prints. One package unit is 1-8x10; 2-5x7’s; 3-4x6’s; 4-4x5’s or 8 wallets. Proof pages (8x10) are available in contact sheet format with 4, 9 or 12 images per sheet. They will be printed with the file name below the image. Proof sheets are available with black lettering on white or white lettering on black

Monitor calibration for Direct to Print:

Prior to submitting orders for direct to print services, please calibrate your monitor to our system. We use Adobe98 RGB color space for processing. The best way to calibrate your system is to purchase a calibration package which includes a colorimeter and the software for calibration. Monaco Systems sells a very nice package for only $249.00. If necessary, change your system to Adobe98 color space and then use the calibration package. This should get you very close to our system. As a final step request a test image from us and download the calibration test image from our ftp site. Compare the test image on your monitor with the test print and make any small adjustments necessary to bring the two together. If you have any questions, please call us for further instructions. You may submit a test file for us to print and we will return it to you for a final comparison. Please mark TEST FILE on your order.

Volume Printing from Digital Files

A minimum of 10 printed files per order and two 8x10 units per file are required to qualify for volume pricing. Orders outside this requirement will be charged at package pricing. Digital Proofing Service from Film

Your film is processed (not included in proof prices), scanned at a 10mb file size and printed on E surface paper. Image files are archived approximately 90 to 120 days. Proofs are offered in two formats, embedded information and gutter-printed information. Embedded proofs have the studio name, , order no., roll no., and frame no. embedded along the right edge on the front of the proof contained within the normal proof size. Gutter-printed proofs are enlarged by ¼ inch on the right edge and contain the same information printed in black on white. This strip can be removed and a full proof is left for sale or distribution. If the digital proof or all of the data is returned from the printed information, the negative is NOT required if the largest print size is 11x14. For larger reprints, the carded negative must be returned for a higher resolution scan. Please inquire as to the availability and turn-around time for this service.

You have complete control over what is shown, how your images are displayed, how long images remain on the site for viewing and what you want your customers to be able to order, including pricing and pickup or shipping options. You can use our portal if you do not currently have a website, or you can link directly from your website to your own start page. This service is currently being used by several studios, fine art photographers and labs and has been widely accepted as a very efficient, cost effective way to increase exposure and sales through the internet. A new addition is the availability of the MorePhotos order manager software. This module gives you the option of receiving your customer’s order and sending it directly to our lab for printing. The software sends order quantities and high resolution files via its own FTP software to our secure server. The order is printed and returned to you without and need to create the order for the lab.

The Remote Order Entry System (ROES)

General Information

West Michigan Photo Works is proud to offer our clients a new complimentary service: the Remote Order Entry System (ROES), by SoftWorks Systems, Inc. This system allows you to use your studio computer to edit your photographs, including cropping and sizing, compile those photographs into an order, and upload that order to the West Michigan Photo Works servers via the embedded FTP software that works with any Internet connection. These orders are received by West Michigan Photo Works, printed and packaged, then sent back to you.

The Java-based software is compatible with all major operating systems. It features such tools as cropping, zooming, auto rotate, and fit. The software can also convert images to Black and White or Sepia Toned. All of these are easily selectable in multiple ways, accommodating various studio work styles and equipment. In addition, the software will save cropping, quantity, and other options between images of the same size, which allows you to process similar images quickly.

Once the order is composed, you can review the items and add any options (such as mounting and finishing) to individual sizes, images, or your entire order.

Billing is available on a per-order or monthly basis with a credit card, or we can bill your established account at West Michigan Photo Works.

Giclée Print Service

What is Giclée?

Giclée ( gee-clay`) comes from the French language meaning, to spray. So, Giclée printing is a print that has had the ink, or in our instance the pigment, sprayed onto the media. Most often this is represented by inkjet printing solutions. We have selected the Epson 10000 printer after exhaustive research and are very pleased with the results. The advancement in this type of printing has allowed us to be able to offer several different media options with pigmented inks that offer fine art quality with archival ranges from 100 to 200 years in independent testing. This service is useful in obtaining a unique product to offer your customers that will allow you to obtain premium pricing. Our flexibility in media and surface will enable you to use your imagination to create signature products to differentiate yourself from others. Please contact us with your ideas or questions about this service. Our current media offerings are listed in the following tables. We are able to obtain additional surfaces including fabrics, vinyls, banner materials and many others if you need a special project or product completed.

Proofing:

We will try to match any proof or print you send to us, within reasonable allowances for differences between pigments and media profiles. For critical fine art reproductions, “proof” prints are needed to help determine that color and tones match the original print as nearly as possible. Whenever you need a large print, have us proof it at a smaller size. Proof prints are 8x10 in size and are printed on the same surface as the final print. The cost for a proof print is $10.00. If you need additional changes, you can order additional proof prints – until you are satisfied with the results. Once we receive your approval, we will make your full size print at the single price along with applicable volume discounts.

Scanning:

We can scan your original flat artwork up to 8x10 for a fee of $30.00 and create a color corrected, spotted file for you. This file will also be used for proofs and/or final prints. Our creation of this does not eliminate the need for proofs in critical fine art reproductions.

Copying Art:

If you art is larger than 8x10 or has an uneven surface, you will need to supply us with a professional transparency or professionally generated digital file of your art. If you live in the West Michigan metro or lakeshore area, we can copy your art for you using professional equipment and color corrected, polarized lighting. We will then scan the film and create a color corrected, dust spotted file for you. The fee for this service is $55.00 to $90.00 depending on size and texture of the original which includes the final file burned to CD for you.

Fine Art Reproduction:

If your art is no larger than 30”x40”, we will copy, prepare a corrected file and proof to the printing stage for a fee of $75.00. For larger original art, please call for the total cost. For art submitted for reproduction with an acceptable transparency, negative or digital file, the cost for getting ready to print is $35.00.

Printing from Digital Files:

You can supply us with a digital file to print from. The file format should be RGB.tif or the highest quality jpeg. If retouching, art or other services are required they are available at the rate of $75.00/hr, $15.00 minimum. Please call for required file sizes for various print sizes.

Printing photographs from transparencies or negatives:

You can supply us with your transparency or negative up to 4x5. We will scan, spot and do initial color correcting for a fee of $15.00 per image. Proofs are still recommended for fine art prints and reproductions.
