“Investing 101”, Pete Martinez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight Financial Ser-

vices: In this discussion, we’ll address what investing “ is” and what investing

“isn’t” by examining the basic investment types, basic investing principles, knowing yourself

and your investment goals, understanding risks, benefits and drawbacks, and analyzing

what may be the appropriate next step, regardless of where you’re at in the retirement

planning process.

FIRST SEMESTER: Thursday, January 21, 2016

“Social Security…What You Don’t Know May Hurt You! ”, Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®, Di-

rector of Planning Services, Insight Financial Services: For many individuals, Social

Security benefits will be a significant part of your retirement income, but with so many op-

tions for claiming benefits, including significant changes in claiming strategies taking effect

in 2016, it’s important to understand which method will help you maximize your benefits

over time. All participants of this class will be eligible to request a no-cost, no-obligation

Social Security Analysis.

“Estate Sales: How To Deal With A Lifetime of Accumulation”, Michael Fry, CAGA,

PEL, Brown Button Estate Sale Services: What is an Estate Sale ? Why and who

might need to have one? Why should you consider hiring the professionals? How much will

it cost and what do you get for your money? How does the Estate Sale Company get paid?

Garage sales, Craig’s List, Auctions, oh my! How much more might you net with an estate

sale vs. these alternative liquidation options? Michael answers all these questions and more.

“Wealth Management 101, An Investing Course for Turbulent Times”, Pete Mar-

tinez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight Financial Services: In this informative

discussion, we’ll take a brief look at where we’re at now with the stock market and econ-

omy. From there, we’ll cover key strategies for building wealth, including understanding

the effects of inflation, minimizing taxes, maximizing contributions to retirement accounts,

shifting taxable investments to tax-deferred accounts, asset allocation and more.

“Family Financial Workshop: Pursuing Success for Every Generation”, Pete Mart inez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight Financial Services: As a Financial Adviser, I help my Clients manage and build wealth. But what might happen to your retirement nest egg if your children don’t’ effectively manage their financial affairs and become a “boomerang kid”? In this discussion, we’ll help you identify your own financial values and introduce strategies for how to have important, financial conversations with your children (of any age) to help your family connect about wealth. You’ll also craft a “Family Mission Statement”.

Thursday, March 17, 2016

“The Sandwich Generation: Who or What’s Eating My Financial Lunch?”,

Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®, Director of Planning Services, Insight Financial

Services: Have you ever felt like somebody (or something) has taken a

bite out of your retirement fund? Rising taxes and healthcare costs are poten-

tially the two biggest threats to eat away at your retirement resources. In to-

day’s discussion, we’ll expose the potentially unexpected costs associated with

retirement.

“Life Changes in Retirement: What to Expect and How to Prepare For Them”, Jackie Pattison, LCPC, Private Practitioner: For the individual whose life to this point has been defined by his or her career or family, understanding WHO you are in retirement may be met with some unexpected challenges! Growing in your understanding of what types of life changes to expect will better-prepare you for a successful and more enjoyable retirement. Next month: “What Will I Be When I Grow-Up?” helps you explore WHAT you want to DO in retirement.

“What Will I Be When I Grow-Up?: Life Beyond the Timeclock!”, Jackie Pattison, LCPC, Private Practitioner: Continuing our discussion from last month, for the individual whose life to this point has been defined by his or her career or family, understanding WHAT you want to DO in retirement may be crucial to feeling fulfilled, prolonging your life and positively impacting your quality of life in retirement. You’ve probably worked hard your entire life. In this highly -energized discussion, we’ll have fun exploring the many possibilities of life beyond the timeclock!

“How to Help Protect and Grow Your Assets in Unstable Markets”, Pete Martinez,

MBA, President & Founder, Insight Financial Services: In this information-packed

session, we’ll examine issues such as past and present stock market trends, internation-

al factors to consider, the impact of new tax laws, potential investment mistakes to

avoid, methods to help protect your assets and building a portfolio designed to suit your

lifestyle.

SECOND SEMESTER: Thursday, May 19, 2016

“Estate Planning for Before and After Retirement”, Seamus Smith, JD, LLM, The

Will & Trust Center: Have you ever wondered what happens if you die without a

will? The state decides who gets what, without regard to your wishes or your heirs’

needs. But what OTHER legal documents might you need? You don’t have to be a mil-

lionaire to need an estate plan! The purpose of an estate plan is to protect your assets,

avoid probate, minimize taxes and provide for your loved ones upon your incapacitation

or at your death.

“Protecting Your Identity”, Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®, Director of Planning Services,

Insight Financial Services: As technology advances and we stay “ connected” with

family and friends through internet-based applications and social media, as well as

through the convenience of on-line shopping, we may be increasing our vulnerability to

identity theft. We’ll address six nefarious ways thieves can “steal your identity”, on-line

social networking sites, and the three “Ds” of identity theft prevention and protection.

“Annuities in Retirement Planning” AND “Variable Annuities in Retirement Plan-

ning”, Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®, Director of Planning Services, Insight Financial Ser-

vices: The resources used for funding retirement often come from a variety of

sources. In this class, we’ll discuss the various types of annuities you may want to consid-

er, such as immediate versus deferred, tax-deferred, indexed and variable. We’ll address

optional guaranteed death benefits, withdrawal strategies, contract fees and charges, and

tax consequences.

Annuities are long-term investment vehicles designed for retirement purposes. The guarantee of an annuity

contract, including fixed returns, pay outs and death benefit guarantees are contingent on the claims-paying

ability of the issuing company. Distributions may be subject to regular income tax and a 10% penalty if taken

prior to age 59 1/2.

“The Road Ahead: Strategies for Uncertain Interest Rate and Inflationary Environ-

ments”, Pete Martinez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight Financial Services: In

this month’s discussion, we’ll Take a Look Under the Hood of your retirement plan to

examine Interest Rate and Inflation Strategies for your bond and fixed income portfolios.

Why invest in Bonds? Why have interest rates gone down for the last 30 years and how

long will it last? What will happen when interest rates go back up? What causes interest

rates to fluctuate? Just how much is $100 today expected to be worth in 2035? Learn

the answers to these questions and more.

Thursday, July 21, 2016

“Protection for the Future: Life Insurance For Various Life Stages” AND

“Variable Life and Variable Universal Life Insurance”, Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®,

Director of Planning Services, Insight Financial Services: Understanding the dif-

ferent types of life insurance policies. Which one makes sense for me? Using life in-

surance to fund my trust. How much life insurance coverage do I need? What is the

role of life insurance in retirement planning? Is my employer-sponsored life insurance

plan portable if I leave the company? Life insurance has so many purposes in retire-

ment and estate planning. We’ll address these issues and more in this in-depth dis-

cussion.

“6 What Ifs of Retirement Planning”, Pete Martinez, MBA, President & Founder,

Insight Financial Services: Because the average retiree is living longer, plan-

ning for a retirement that may last 10, 20, 30 years or longer may be wrought with a

number of challenges that can eat away at your retirement nest egg. In this eye-

opening discussion, we’ll address six key issues to consider, including: What if I live

too long? What if I face a major market correction? What if I need more income?

What if taxes go up? What if inflation is high? What if I die too early and leave my

spouse alone?

I n s i g h t F i n a n c i a l S e r v i c e s S e n i o r C o l l e g e

“Legal Issues Facing Women”, Andrea H. Olitsky, JD, MBA, The Will & Trust Center:

Statistically, women outlive men by a wide margin and a woman may experience a variety

of legal issues and/or risk factors following the death or mental incapacitation of her hus-

band. For the woman experiencing divorce in retirement, other planning issues may arise.

If your husband was a business owner, you may encounter additional legal issues. In this

lively discussion, we’ll help women understand how to protect themselves legally in retire-

ment.

Page 7 Insight Financial Services

“Long-Term Care Insurance—Part I”, Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®, Director of Plan-

ning Services, Insight Financial Services: The costs of paying for housing

and care in retirement continue to rise and are directly related to whether one re-

sides in their home or in a senior living facility, as well as the services and level-of-

care needed. Few have the financial resources to pay for such expenses out-of-

pocket so purchasing a Long-term Care Insurance Policy may be an important piece

of your retirement planning strategy. In Part I of this discussion, we’ll examine who

needs long-term care services, the costs of long-term care and how to pay for them,

either personally or through government benefits, state-based long-term care part-

nership programs in Kansas and Missouri, tax issues, policy benefits and possible

resources you could use to pay for long-term care services.

“Introduction to Senior Living—How to Be Proactive vs. Reactive”, Alex Silver-

man, Community Relations Advisor, A Place for Mom, Inc.: Whether staying in the

home is no longer desired or safe, there are many options available to consider, de-

pending on the level-of-care needed, including Independent Living, Assisted Living,

Skilled Nursing and Memory Care. At A Place for Mom, Inc., we believe the best time to

seek-out such services is BEFORE you actually need them. In this discussion, we’ll ad-

dress the importance of touring facilities; knowing what questions to ask; understanding

what therapy services, e.g., PT, OT, Speech, are included; does the facility have a wait-

ing list; what are the “move-in” costs/fees; what to look for, i.e., is the facility clean, do

the current residents appear to be happy and well-cared for, are strong odors pervasive,

and are trained medical staff available 24/7/365? Affordability is likely to be a major con-

cern so knowing which facilities only accept private pay and/or long-term care insurance,

versus which ones accept Medicaid, will help you narrow your search. We’ll also ad-

dress the warning signs of knowing when it may be time to seek-out senior living ser-

vices.

Thursday, July 21, 2016 (Continued)

THIRD SEMESTER: Thursday, August 18, 2016

“Managing Your Lifestyle”, Pete Martinez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight Finan-

cial Services: Have you considered what your lifestyle will look like in retirement? It

may or may not resemble that of your working years. In this in-depth discussion, we’ll take

a look at how smart lifestyle strategies put in place today can enhance your lifestyle now,

while at the same time, potentially freeing-up assets to invest for the long-term which, in-

turn, may have a positive affect on your lifestyle in retirement.

Page 7

“Long-Term Care Insurance—Part II”, Greg Keal, CLU, RFC®, Director of Planning

Services, Insight Financial Services: In Part II of our Long-term Care Insurance dis-

cussion, we’ll focus on the different types of Long-term Care contracts and policies availa-

ble and how they work. We’ll examine the various policy “riders” available, the taxability of

long-term care benefits, benefit “triggers”, benefit periods, benefit amounts, effects of infla-

tion, how to choose a long-term care insurance policy, employer-provided long-term care

insurance, and life insurance and long-term care insurance combination policies.

“Fall Prevention: Keeping Your Environment Safer”, Sheril Herman, Business Execu-tive, Humana at Home / Senior Bridge Kansas City: Because the experience of a nasty fall is no respecter of age and we are all potentially vulnerable, that makes today’s topic rele-vant, whether for yourself or for the benefit of an aging parent. Knowing that falls are a hot topic, as well as a potential life-changing event, we will focus this discussion on fall preven-tion measures and the impact falls have on the senior community in particular. Join us as we identify the strategies for lowering the rate of hip fractures in older adults. As a group we will discuss the five building blocks for community-based fall prevention. In summary, we will look at some other key influencers in fall reduction, including regular medication review and home safety assessments. We will conclude the presentation with a review of how a post-fall assessment may prove helpful toward reducing the incidence of future falls.

Thursday, August 18, 2016 (Continued)

Thursday, September 15, 2016

“Women and Investing”, Pete Martinez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight Financial

Services: According to the 2014 “ Financial Experience & Behaviors Among Women”

study by Prudential, 80% of women report they feel unprepared for retirement. In this dis-

cussion, we’ll address the challenges women investors may face and effective management

strategies to help you overcome them, including how to protect your legacy.

“Medicare: The Ins and Outs of Medicare Alphabet Soup”, Greg Keal,

CLU®, RFC

®, Director of Planning Services, Insight Financial Services:

For most retirees, Medicare will be your primary source for healthcare cover-

age in retirement, but understanding Medicare can be complicated. In Part I of

this topic, we’ll address Medicare Plans A, B and D and help you understand

the coverages and costs associated with each.

“Seniors and Nutrition”, Presenter to be Determined: Eating well is important at any

age, but even more so for seniors. Slowed metabolism, digestive system changes, medica-

tion side effects and emotional health may all impact how the body processes food. Ade-

quate nutrition is necessary for health, vitality and quality of life. Unfortunately, for a variety

of reasons, many Seniors are not eating as well as they should, which can lead to poor nu-

trition or malnutrition, easily being mistaken as a disease or illness.

Mahatma Gandhi

“Pre-Planning End-of-Life Events”, Pat Schonacher, M. Ed., Family Service Counse-

lor, Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens: You’ve heard it said there

are two things certain in life, death and taxes, and many try to avoid discussing either topic.

However, taking time to pre-plan your funeral arrangements allows you to understand and

dictate your choices, alleviate additional stress for your loved ones during an already emo-

tionally-charged time and control final expense costs.

“Where Do We Go From Here?”, Pete Martinez, MBA, President & Founder, Insight

Financial Services: In this open-forum discussion, we will recap earlier subject matter

and address your unresolved questions and concerns. The objective of this discussion will

be to help you understand and identify a strategy for what might be your next logical step.

“Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage Plans”, Greg Keal, CLU®, RFC

®,

Director of Planning Services, Insight Financial Services: In Part II of our Medicare

discussion, we’ll address how Medicare works with other insurance, including five things

you need to know about retiree insurance you may have available through an employer.

We’ll introduce Medigap policies and help you understand eight things you need to know

about them, how to compare Medigap policies (they’re an entirely different can of Medi-

care Alphabet Soup!) and where to find assistance in shopping for Medicare Supplement

and Medicare Advantage plans in the Medicare Marketplace.
