It is teachers who, in the end, will change the world of the school by understanding it

Are you growing tired of the following?
• Expensive trainings that claim to teach you every thing you ever wanted to know about something you never wanted to know.
• Professional consultants brought in to teach you concepts that one of your co-teachers or even you are actually capable of teaching or better yet, modeling.
• Not being able to really spend time learning how to enhance “your” own teaching instruction. For instance if you teach 6th grade math, having the chance to learn more about…6th grade math.

If you agree with any of those then may I present:

What is Action Research?
• First of all…It’s not MANDATORY!!!! But invitational. If you’re interested..you’re invited!
• Also, AR is a tool that allows “you” the teacher to learn more about and enhance “your” own teaching!
• It is defined as: a process in which participants examine their own educational practice, systematically & carefully, using the technique of research.

How can it work for you?
• You develop questions that you would like to answer specifically about your classroom (maybe you have a concern with a particular teaching method or your student results).
• For Example: My AR Question for 2006 was:
“In what ways will my student’s level of engagement increase when teaching grammar
through writing?”

Sample AR Questions
School Focus:
“Why is their a palpable lack of black parent participation within our school”?
Department Focus:
“Is outlining a chapter more effective than using flashcards or notebooks”?
Classroom Focus:
“ How can I motivate my students in order to improve achievement”?
