    OUT AND DISCOVER MARICOPA. OVER 7,000

    RESIDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO DESCEND

    UPON PACANA PARK FOR THIS HISTORIC

    EVENT THAT CELEBRATES OUR HISTORY

    WHILE EMBRACING OUR FUTURE.

    This years event will feature the

    wildly popular annual chili cook-off.

    The contest will be open to all chili chefs in the area and

    throughout the state of Arizona. You do not have to be a

    resident of Maricopa to participate in the chili cook-off.

    If you live in Hidden Valley, Casa Grande or Glendale and

    think your chili is tops, then sign up! Theres no cost to

    register and the winner of Best Overall Chili will receive

    $1,000 prize. Also new this year, will be the BBQ Chicken,

    Rib and Beef competition that will be graded by a judges

    panel. Top honors wins $500. For more information please

    Taking place on the soccer field will be the largest Kidz

    Zone to ever hit Maricopa. Plans are in the works to make

    the Kidz Zone full of carnival games, rides, bounce houses,

    clowns, super heros, refreshments and more. Children will

    also be able to participate in a bike rodeo as well. A dunk

    tank will provide fun for all ages.

    Entertainment will also be a significant part of the event

    this year. The City of Maricopa is proud to announce that

    national recording artist the Gin Blossoms will hit the

    stage to close out the evening. Also scheduled to play are

    up-and-coming alternative rock band Anarbor and local

    favorite the Freddie Duran Plan. In addition, everyone

    entering the event will receive an empty gift bag and a

    map of where to find exclusive Founders Day logo items.

    Over 70 different vendors will be participating in Founders

    Day this year. Well also have a special fall harvest

    pumpkin patch and more!

    In addition to the main event, Founders Day Presented by

    Wells Fargo will support the inaugural Classic Car Show

    and the 2nd Annual Founders Day Family Fun Run. For

    DANCE - IRISH DANCEIrish Dancing is a great way to have fun and meet new friends. Its a wonderful dance form that can be enjoyed byanyone. Classes are taught at the pace of each individual dancer. The class features group dances and solo dances and

    is also a great aerobic exercise.

    FITNESS - BODY CONDITIONING & PILATESBody conditioning with pilates provides a full body workout for both the beginner and experienced exerciser. Class will

    begin with a short warm up and stretch and move into Hi/Lo aerobics (including funk/dance aerobics and kickboxing).

    The class will then work the whole body for 30 minutes with Pilates exercises and finally end with a 5 minute stretch.

    PETS - OBEDIANCE TRAININGClass is open to dogs 6 months to 2 years with no previous training necessary. This five week program will include

    the basics such as sit, lie down, stay, heel, and come. Class will be held in a group setting to encourage social

    situations.

    SPORTS - SOCCERThe City of Maricopa is proud to host the first Adult Co-Ed soccer league in Maricopa. These full sided, 11-v-11 gameswill pit teams against each other in a head-to-head format on Sunday afternoon. All men and women, 18 and older will

    compete in a round-robin season. We are looking for all levels of skill as we launch this popular adult sport. You can

    SPORTS - SOFTBALL (SUMMER/FALL SEASON)The City of Maricopa offers one of the most competitive softball programs in Pinal County. Pacana Park has two lighted

    softball fields with fences set at 310-feet to test your power. We offer Mens and Co-Ed softball played under modified

    ASA rules. The fall season begins the week of August 5 and information regarding the WINTER 2007 season will be

    released on our web site by September 10. We offer double header leagues and single-game leagues with end of season

    SAFETY- FIRE SAFETY CLASSThe City of Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department, in conjunction with the Maricopa Fire District, have

    partnered to offer this Fire Safety Program for children in the community for FREE. This is a class that every parent

    should be excited about! The City of Maricopa and the Maricopa Fire District want to educate children on fire safety and

    how to prevent future fire hazards. In this class, children will learn how to use a fire extinguisher, see a fire truck up

    close, how to evacuate a burning building, how to prevent fires, along with any other necessary skills. This is a one-day

    class that will be offered only once this winter so dont miss out.

    All registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Classes will be limited insize based on instructor recommendation. In the event a class reaches capacity, you willbe placed on a waiting list until a position becomes available.

    Registration begins at 8:00am on Monday, August 13, 2007 at City Hall. Registrationends at 5:00pm on Friday, September 7, 2007.

    We accept registrations Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. City Hall is locatedat 45145 W. Madison Ave., same side as the post office, just west of state route 347.

    Please submit the registration form stitched in the middle of this booklet for allprograms.

    Applicants placed on a waiting list will receive notification of placement in a classwithin 48 hours of scheduled start time.

    All fees for classes must be paid at the time of registration. We accept only cash andcheck at this time. All checks should be made payable to the City of Maricopa. An

    insufficient funds charge of $25.00 will apply to NSF checks. If you fail to pay this FEE,your spot in the program will be forfeited.

    Please fill out the registration form completely. Enter the full name of the participant,address, home and emergency phone numbers as well as age. Please sign the registrationform. We will not process registrations without a signature, uniform sizes or age.

    The Fall Session of recreation programs will last seven weeks from September 17, 2007to November 10, 2007 including a one week break for October 8, 2007.

    Some classes may require the purchase of supplies or uniform in addition to theregistration fee. If applicable the supply fee must be given directly to the instructoron the first day of class. All extra fees are disclosed in the class description.

    Non-registered individuals are not allowed in classrooms, either as an observer,

    family member or dependent, unless granted permission by the instructor or theCity of Maricopa.

    We are always looking for instructors. If you have the skills, experience andinterest in teaching please call Maria Billingsley at 520-568-9098 Ext. 254.

    The City of Maricopa does not discriminate on the basis of disability. Individuals needingspecial accommodations are asked to notify City staff when registering.

    The City of Maricopa will not prohibit any individual from participating in an activitydue to a medical condition or impairment, unless the condition is likely to cause injuryto the individual or other participants. An individual who has been advised by a medicalprofessional of a medical condition that is likely to cause harm to him/herself or otherparticipants is obligated to inform the City of Maricopa of this condition and withdraw

    from the program.

    The City of Maricopa reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficientenrollment. Early registration is always encouraged. If you want to cancel your classor program enrollment you must call 520-568-9098 ext 204. If you cancel less than48 hours before the class starts, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will beissued after a class begins. No exceptions.

    The City of Maricopa may take up to 45 days to issue a refund.
