• Objective:– To provide project management and coordination for Region 10
Special Projects
• Responsibilities – To ensure Special Projects are completed within publicized
schedules.– To present project descriptions including funding requirements
to the Region 10 Delegate/Director and the Region 10 Executive Committee.
– To involve volunteers to participate and champion Region 10 Special Projects.
– To submit pertinent and timely Special Project information to the Region 10 Newsletter Editor.

Section (2007 – completed)– Special Project on History of IEEE Region

• Why?– Mission of IEEE History Centre: “to preserve,
research and promote the history of information and electrical technologies”
– Recognition of past achievements and to promote IEEE R10 units
– Archive milestones and records before they “disappear”
– To raise public awareness and image of IEEE– Data collection and standardisation of record keeping

R10 Countries/Councils/Sections for IEEE’s 125th year Anniversary in 2009 (and 42nd year for Region 10)

Data Collection Process
1. Section/Council establish and maintain respective history pages
2. Section/Council upload required information to R10 Historic Data collection site

4. Info from history page could be extracted for printed report.
5. Special Project Coordinator welcomes suggestions on information to be included in the R10 page.

• Triennial gathering of IEEE grassroots leadership to– network with other Section leaders– attend training programs– develop recommendations to guide the
future of the Institute

• February – RAB to approved SC08 Theme “Celebrating
Volunteer Achievements Worldwide”
• February - September– SC08 Program Committee will be developing
program (tracks, core track training theme)

• On official notice for speakers will be distributed by the SC08 Program Committee.
• Each Regional SC08 Coordinator will be requested to coordinate these nominations & forward to SC08 Program Committee.
• Speakers to be identified by 4th quarter 2007

Procedure for nomination of SC speakers and Track Chairs from R10
1. Nomination to be sent to Fanny Su at APO
2. Nominations to be considered and approved by Director in consultation with R10 Advisory Committee
3. Information to be passed to SC08 Regional Coordinator for consideration by SC08 committee

SC08 Speakers
• Speakers should be aware that funds are not available within the Sections Congress budget to pay for speaker travel.
• Speakers' attendance must be supported either by their IEEE organizational unit (Region, Section, Society, RAB, TAB, EAB, etc.), their employer, or be self-funded.
• Will receive no monetary compensation for their participation.
• Unless the speaker is also a primary delegate, the speaker will also be responsible for the registration fee (which covers meals at Congress).

Will your Section be there?
• Ensure your Section’s participation in SC 2008 by:– Start budgeting NOW to send at least a primary
delegate– Keep your officer reporting up-to-date, in order
that Sections Congress information will be sent to the right contact
– Start planning now– Goal – have 100% participation from Sections

IEEE Honors Ceremony
• The IEEE Board of Directors has agreed to conduct the 2008 IEEE Honors Ceremony with IEEE Sections Congress.
• The ceremony highlights the accomplishments of each year's IEEE Award and Medal recipients.
• All SC’08 participants will be invited to attend the ceremony on Saturday, 20 October 2008.

Regional Committee Meetings
• In keeping with past practice, each Region will be provided with an opportunity to conduct a Regional Committee meeting prior to/after SC08.
• Specifics dates for each Region meeting to be determined based upon meeting requirements/hotel availability.

Characteristics of a Primary Delegate
• Actively prepare for sections congress by participating in their region/section activities by discussing issues with their colleagues
• Be willing to be an active learner/participant in sessions
• Actively consider issues as they are brought forward
• Be an informed voter on the recommendations• Be a communicator of information learned at
sections congress to the Region, Section and Chapters
