How This Report Was Compiled This 2007 IT Contract Workorce Report represents a snapshot in time o demand or IT talent in the
US and Canada. It is based on close to 2 million searches or specic skills conducted via the HotGigs
Stang Exchange. The data was collected in Q4 o 2006.
The HotGigs Stang Exchange is an online marketplace or buying and selling stang services that
streamlines the oten cumbersome process o nding and hiring consultants and contractors rom the
highly ragmented network o rms and agencies nationally. Companies and stang rms in need
o resources (either contract or perm placement) can conduct searches on the HotGigs Exchange or
needed skill sets. Search results show listings o available consultant proles with matching skills.
Searches can be rened to ocus in on particular skills or geographies.
The results contained in this report were compiled based on the highest volume searches on the
HotGigs Exchange in 20 categories, including specic IT skills, technologies and sotware packages. In
each category, search results are presented in descending order accompanied by a summary o keytrends highlighted by the ndings.
This report ocuses exclusively on IT skills, as a signicant segment o the contractors proled on the
HotGigs Exchange are in the IT eld, and the highest volume o searches is presently concentrated in
this area. Future reports will break out contractor searches in categories such as business consulting,
marketing and sales, health care, and administration, as well as specic geographies.
Hiring companies can use this data to inorm their workorce planning and to understand demand
curves or mission-critical skill sets.
Stang and consulting frms can assess present needs by comparing the data and trends in thisreport with the requirements and skill requests they are responding to in their own active markets, as
well as identiying which skills they might specialize in going orward.

The 2007 IT Contract Workorce Report shows an improving
economy or IT contractors and consultants.
Based on nearly 2 million searches conducted on the HotGigs
Stang Exchange or IT contract resources during the ourth quarter
o 2006, this report reveals the key IT skills that are being sought
in the marketplace. The ndings and trends presented here can
help companies and stang rms ocus their eorts on recruiting
and retaining key contract resources based on demand in the
marketplace.
Key trends:ERP and packaged sotware systems are in top demand as
companies ocus on implementing and enhancing their ERPsystems. SAP leads the category, ollowed by Oracle and Peoplesot
as highest demand packages, and billable rates can be in the mid
hundreds per hour.
Web development is the second highest demand area as
backlogged projects move into the development phase. ASP.Net,
Javascript, HTML, and PHP skills are in greatest demand with strong
growth or AJAX developers.
Project management ell to third position during 2006. Demand
remains strong or PMs, and larger/longer projects are still the
highest need area.
Database development needs surged in 2006, with searches or SQL
server developers exceeding those or Oracle developers.
Analysis and design skills moved up signicantly in 2006 passing
networking and client server development. Top skills desired were
business requirements gathering, systems design and process
fow mapping.
Client server developers remained in high demand, with .NET and
J2EE in highest demand, ollowed closely by SQL and PL/SQL skills.
Networking needs changed, with top demand going to skilled
Cisco network technicians, along with LAN setup/support, Active
Directory, and a strong need or network architects.
IT management remains strong with highest demand coming rom
smaller to mid-sized companies. Skills in business integration and
application development also topped the list in 2006.
