Rattlesnake Ridgewas lucky on

Sunday Sept. 14when the big stormswept throughCentral Ohio, knocking downtrees and powerlines. The overall damage on the course was fairly minimal.

We lost somewhere around 30 trees that were blown down orbroken off, but many of them were on the edges and out of play. The tent at the bag drop was ripped out and blown over into oneof the landscape beds. All things considered, however, we werevery fortunate not to have worse losses.

We had some early concerns when support wires for the largeelectrical tower by No. 1 tee were broken, causing the tower tosway and lean somewhat. But AEP had a big crew and lots ofequipment out on Tuesday Sept. 16 to make the repairs.Meanwhile, the RRGC maintenance staff had the back nineplayable for a private event on Monday.

The course is in good shape as we head into fall and winter.

Aerification set for Oct. 12-14

Now the bad news: Sorry, but it’s time for our fall aerification ofgreens and fairways. We plan to close the first tee at 2:30 pm

on Sunday, Oct. 12, to begin the front nine holes. The course willbe closed Oct. 13 and 14, reopening atnoon on Wednesday, Oct. 15. We hopeto get the course back to normal as soonas possible.

We also are preparing the list of falland winter projects. We want to build thenew walk bridge on No. 8 and continuethe ongoing cleaning-out of woodedareas and the rebuilding and shaping ofcreek banks. Drainage remains a priorityin certain areas.____________

It is important to go into the coldweather with the course in good

condition, so here are my reminders on how you can help:• Repair ball marks on the greens• Replace divots and use the sand around the edges• Don’t drive carts in fescue or high grass• Exit the fairway at least 30 yards in front the green• Keep all four wheels of your cart on the cart path when approaching the tees or greens

Thanks for your help.

With the final Party on the Patio in the rearview mirror, the Grill Room shifts into Taste of the Vine mode.

The first of these popular get-togethers is Friday, Oct. 17,with a Ryder Cup theme loosely based on the golf rivalrybetween the U.S. and Europe. (Elvis Presley Blue SuedeChardonnay could only be American, right?)

The events feature wine-tasting and imported anddomestic cheeses and fresh fruit; the cost is $17.95 perperson. Chef ’s Specials will be available afterward, as well asthe regular menu. Events start at 7 pm.

Reservations are required: 614-410-1313 ext. 3.
