School Wide Focus Group
Inquiry Team students were selected by
looking at the Spring 2008 E-PAL. Those
students scored either a one or two on thewriting section of the E-PAL. It was
determined that paragraph structure and
coherence are essential components ofwriting development.

Target Population
Our target population consists of fourth
grade students who did not achieve writing
proficiency on the 2008 NYSESLAT.

Define a Long Term Goal
Every student will perform at the proficient
level on the writing portion on the Spring
2009 administration of the NYSESLAT.Teacher-made materials will be used to
develop a cohesive paragraph: opening,
body with supporting details, andconclusion.

Analyze Systems that Produce
Conditions of Learning Team used the pre-writing rubric to
assess the students performance on
Empire State NYSESLAT Workbook. We re-assessed each student after
several instructional periods.
We compared the results with theearlier assessments to trackimprovements.
