Scoutreach is a Great Experience for Our Youth and LeadersScoutreach is growing strong in the area thanks to great leaders! Heather O., Darcy H., Andrea K., and Yussef U. have stepped up to reach out to our at-risk youth. They have taken on the challenge to be friends and role models for these boys. They are educating boys to the world of Scouting by sharing their time and talents. What a thrill to walk into the Boys and Girls Clubs or La Cruz Community and hear “Is it time for Boy Scouts? Yeah!” They are enthusiastic, excited Scouts absorbing all they can to be better young men.

We are always looking for help in the St. Cloud metro area. If you would like to be a part of the Scoutreach program, please contact Jane.

Thanks, Trevor and Evan, for your dedication to your community!

Bob Haller, from Troop 191 and Pack 193, was given some early edition Boy Scout books but what he also received was a history lesson in the legacy of Scouting.

Bob’s friend, whose grandfather Virgil Pickerel was a Scout, found some Boy Scout books that date back to 1910 after his grandfather passed away. Bob then learned more about the books and the history of Scouting in the United Kingdom and in the United States.

The fi rst book, “Woodcraft for Boy Scouts”, is Volume 3 of the Boy Scout Library. The book was compiled and arranged by a B.P. Scout and published by Gale & Polden in London. In 1910, the book cost sixpence in the U.K. which was about seven cents in the U.S. The book is fi lled with illustrations of vegetation and many of the woodland creatures that are indigenousto the U.K.

The other books that Bob received are Boy Scout adventure stories. They have a copyright held by the BSA from 1915 to 1916 and were printed in the U.S. It was very interesting to fi nd out that all of the illustrations in the book “Don Strong of the Wolf Patrol” were drawn by Norman Rockwell.

THANK YOU TO THE PICKEREL FAMILY FOR SHARING THESE INCREDIBLE PIECES OF SCOUTING HISTORY.
