In the rural households, the main income source was the agricultural production that ensured32.9% of the total income. The most part of it (25.5% of the total income) was represented by theequivalent value of the consumption of agro-food products from own resources, the money incomefrom agriculture providing only 7.4% but 3.6% more than in Quarter I 2009. An importantcontribution to the rural household income had also the earnings (31.1%) and the social provisions(27.6%).
HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURE
In Quarter II 2009, the total expenses of the population were roughly of 2056 lei per month perhousehold (707 lei per person) and were 88.0% of the total income.
The main uses of the expenses done by the households are the consumption of food and non-foodgoods, of services and the income taxes, contributions and subscriptions paid to private and publicadministration and to the social insurance budgets, as well as the cover of some needs related tothe household production (poultry and animal feed, work payment for the household production,
seeds, veterinary services, etc.).The expenses with investments, intended for purchasing or raisingdwellings, purchasing land and equipment required by the household production and purchasingshares, etc represent a small weight in the total household expenditure.
Some characteristics as to the size and the structure of the total consumption expenses aredetermined by the residential area. Consequently, while the monthly average consumptionexpenses are 517 lei, greater with urban households than with rural ones, the food consumptionexpenses are only 63 lei greater. This is a result of the fact that, with rural households 40.9% of thefood consumption expenses represent the equivalent value of the consumption from ownresources. For the urban households, the food consumption from own resources covered 18.2% ofthe food consumption expenses.
According to the standard classification of the consumption expenses by use (COICOP), food andsoft drinks roughly held, roughly, 41.9% of the household consumption in Quarter II 2009 (40.8% in
Quarter I 2009).

THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STATISTICS 3PRESS RELEASE No. 199 /2009
A consumption component, with a relatively high weight as to the expenses, is related to thedwelling (water, thermal energy, electricity, gas, fuel, furniture and the endowment and keeping ofthe dwelling). In Quarter II of 2009, it was allotted 18.7% of the consumption expenses. The mostpart of the expenses with the dwelling (14.3%) was spent on the consumption of utilities (water, electricity, gas and other kinds of fuel).
The households expenses with health (4.5% of the consumption expenses) and especially witheducation (1.0%) registered a low level, mostly because the fulfilment of these needs of thehouseholds members is largely achieved through public services of which they benefit free ofcharge or within the social insurance system.
