Don’t worry – it’s totally normal if your guy has started acting alittle crazy. We’ve delved inside the groom’s brain to give you simplestrategies for dealing with his strange behavior.

The GroomzillaHe says things like: “I don’t know, I’m just not feeling peonies ...

succulents might be better.”How to deal: Relax; no one is suggesting that you take his

balloon-centerpiece idea seriously. He’s probably just coping withinner panic, and he’s overcompensating. So make him feel like theequal player that he is and assign him a few tasks to oversee all onhis own.

The Social SecretaryHe says things like: “I just invited a cool guy from the gym.

Make sure you add him to the guest list.”How to deal: Hello! His exuberance may be adorable, but there

are better ways to express it. Here’s what to do: Show him the cold, hard numbers. There’s nothing more sobering than seeing just howmuch these extra people can drive up the bottom line.

The Mama’s BoyHe says things like: “A teddy-bear theme could be cool”– just

because your future mother-in-law made the suggestion. How to deal: Work out the details with him behind the scenes

and let him be the one to stand up to his mom. Keep in mind thatshe just wants to help, so give her a task that will play to her strengths(come on – everyone’s good at something!).

The Big TalkerHe says things like: “Don’t worry. I’ve got it covered.”How to deal: Resist nagging. Instead, have weekly check-ins

where you both can give progress reports. Real progress reports, notjust “I’ll get to it” or “Don’t worry.” When all the wedding-task talktakes place at one time, you’ll be less tempted to bring it uprepeatedly and risk becoming ... yep, a nag.

In other words, don’t fret because you’ve neverspent this much money on your clothesbefore! This is one of the times it’s OK tosplurge, so keep an open mind and arelaxed budget while we show you whyyour wedding gown is worth every penny.

Hand EmbellishmentIt takes 10 days, 20 people

and more than 2,400 hoursto embroider the gown’s66,360 crystals and beads.

Stay-Put StructureThe bustier is fused,

molded and contoured toimprove comfort and fit, which takes about threehours from start tofinish. Ladies, this iswhat holds your gown(and “the girls”) inplace while you’removing andshaking on thedance floor.

Luxurious LiningSure, no one sees it, but you’ll certainly

feel the difference of pure silk taffeta lining onyour skin. Just don’t get too cozy; like it ornot, you’re going to have to take it offeventually.

Rich FabricFrom the top of the gown to the

tip of the train, there are 16 yards ofdouble-faced silk satin. That’s enoughfabric to reupholster an entire sofa.

Attention to DetailExtra-strength invisible zippers are

brought in from the Far East to bearthe weight of the ball gown and helpprevent slipping. This means nomore tugging!

Machine Stitch WorkOnce all the pieces are

created, it still takes 18 hoursof machine work to

assemble this Platinumfor Priscilla of Boston

couture gown.

Q. My groom wants a groom’s cake, but I don’t think we canfit it in our budget. What other ways can we compromise?

A. Work together on your cake and compromise. For a multi-layered cake, you can each choose a flavor that you like. Ifhe’s totally into chocolate with raspberry filling and you’re allabout coconut with cream, alternate layers of each flavor.

If he insists on having a groom’s cake, consider orderingcupcakes arranged in a tier. Or let him choose the cake forthe engagement party.

Q. Is it okay for couples to take photos before theceremony?

A. Of course. Taking pro photos before the ceremony is agreat idea. You’ll be looking your best (no running mascarafrom happy tears or flat hair!) and it will give you and thegroom a chance to see each other and spend a fewmoments alone. Seeing each other might help relieve someof those pre-wedding jitters. Even better, after the ceremony, you’ll be able to enjoy the cocktail hour right alongside yourguests! It’s more time for you to spend with them.

Q: Do we need to have a receiving line?

A. Whether or not you have a receiving line is totally up to you.If you’re not planning to walk around and speak with guestsindividually during the reception, then a receiving line is greatway to greet everyone – especially for a large wedding.

Not into the receiving line? During dinner, go table to tableand say hello. As long as you reach everyone to thank guestsfor coming to your wedding, it doesn’t matter how it happens.

Q: I’ve tried to tell my bridesmaids that I don’t wantstrippers at my bachelorette party, but they’re insisting.Do I grin and bear it, or put my foot down?

A. It doesn’t matter what your friends want; it matters whatyou want. It’s nice that they’re planning a party for you, butyou should be comfortable.

Not all bachelorette parties involve a night of debauchery. Many brides today opt to have a different kind of celebration. Why not head out for a girls’ spa day, a fancy dinner or a nightdancing at a fun local club? Either way, you’ll have a blast.

Q:The bridesmaid dresses are really expensive, but I lovethem! Is it too much to ask my friends to pay for them?

A. You know your bridesmaids well enough to know whetheror not they can afford the expense. If some can afford it whileothers can’t, it might be smart to choose a different gown thatfits in their price range. You can find hundreds of options onTheKnot.com. Or, you can mix it up and let the girls who wantto wear the pricier dress do so, and the other girls can choosesomething similar. Even better, you can cover a portion of thedress cost as your gift to them for being in the wedding.

Touch of BlackOn the runway: Dark details are the perfect way to add

excitement to a basic white wedding gown. Black waistbands aresimple yet stunning on every silhouette, a graphic floral hem can bequite flirty and charcoal-colored blooms give a lace gown someserious edge.

Down the aisle: These accents may be rock-and-roll-inspired, butdon’t even think about going gothic. This means forget the smokyeye and focus on a makeup palette full of soft pinks to keep yourlook elegant and fresh.

Incorporate coutureWant to feel like a celebrity on your wedding day? Make the aisle your very own red carpetby incorporating one of these couture trends into your look. From black details to amazingembellishments, these over-the-top styles are sure to excite the inner diva in every bride.

Tiers of cascading crystals, dazzling sequined dresses and intricatelybeaded designs made their show stopping debut this season. (SHNS photocourtesy Alisha Clark, Jennifer Davis, Erik Ekroth, Tat Leong and Luke Walker)

Over-the-Top BeadingOn the runway: Nothing says “glamour” like head-to-toe

embellishment. We’re especially enamored with tiers of cascadingcrystals, dazzling sequined dresses and intricately beaded designsthat made their show-stopping debut this season.

Down the aisle: The key to this alluring trend is keepingaccessories minimal. Stud earrings are the perfect way tocomplement, not compete with, an overly embellished dress.

20 Weddings 2009...

Avant-Garde BowsOn the runway: You

don’t need charm school totake note of this adorabledetail. Petite and pristine orornate and oversized, bowsare certainly making bridalheadlines. These girlytouches are super sweet, whether decorating abodice or securing the bandof an exaggerated dropped-waist gown.

Down the aisle: Letthe style of the bowdetermine your otheraccessories. A big floppybow as a bustle shouldn’tbe covered. A morestructured style calls forpreppy accessories like asatin headband or gloves.

Fortunately, the time of year you’re getting married and the toneof your wedding can help narrow the selection.

Roses, a longtime wedding staple, are available year-round andcome in a wide variety of colors. Go with yellow, pink or orange for asummer wedding, or white or burgundy for a winter affair. Anotherall-season flower is the orchid, which comes in several varieties and isperfect for formal weddings. Calla lilies, stephanotis, lisianthus andchrysanthemums are other blooms without an off-season.

Marrying in the spring? Play off the fresh feel of the season withfragrant flowers like peonies and lilies of the valley. Peonies come inwhite, cream, peach, pink and burgundy and are great for bouquets. The oh-so-delicate lily of the valley is another strong-scented optionfor the spring. While this flower used to be considered an accent, more and more brides are opting for simple, small bouquets madeentirely of these blooms.

If you’re heating things up in the summer, dahlias are a greatchoice. These bright, round blooms come in orange, pink and purple

and work well in everything from your bouquets to your centerpieces.Looking for something more delicate? Hydrangeas have the fullness

to fill out your arrangement, but with soft hues like white, green, purple and blue, and are a bit more understated. And then, of course, there are daisies, perfect for a casual wedding with a playful vibe.

If you’re looking for something different for your fall wedding, askyour florist about chocolate cosmos. These brown blooms smell like amix of vanilla and cocoa. If you want a flower that won’t have youtrying to lick the bouquet, mums are another option. These flowerscan withstand any type of weather and come in a range of colors.

If your wedding is in the winter, consider going with anemones, which have black centers surrounded by petals in white, magenta, purple, or burgundy.

Having a formal wedding? The structured blooms of ranunculusmight be for you. These can be used as accent flowers or on theirown, and work well in round bouquets and in boutonnieres.

For a complete season-by-season guide, check out TheKnot.com/flowers.

Now is the time to upgrade to ensure that you haveeverything you need for those special occasions (likehosting Thanksgiving dinner a few years down theroad). So get that scanner ready for these five super-fine splurges.

1. Make a Sterling ChoiceSterling-silver flatware was once a fixed item on

wedding wish lists, but these days, couples tend to skipover sterling in favor of stainless. Stainless, however, willnever hold the value, beauty and heirloom quality ofreal silver. Not to mention, silver wears so well: Themore you use it, the shinier the patina grows. Plus, contemporary silver collections are even dishwasher safe!

2. Fine DiningMany shy away from fine dinnerware, thinking that

usage once or twice a year doesn’t make the purchaseworth it. But the truth is that porcelain and bone chinaare actually tougher and more durable than commonstoneware. So don’t save china for special occasions only– work it into everyday dining.

3. Slice and DiceHigh-quality knives are probably the single best

kitchen investment you can make. They allow you toprep meals more quickly, easily and safely. If you don’twant to register for an entire block, then at least investin the best of the three basics – a chef ’s knife, a paringknife and a serrated knife.

4. Stove-ToppersYou need more from a stockpot than the ability to

boil water – inexpensive pots and pans won’t heat evenlyor properly. Upgrade to stainless (corrosion-resistant)cookware with aluminum or copper cores (great for heatconduction), or consider any other copper combination, anodized aluminum or cast iron.

5. Perk UpTreat yourselves to the sophistication of a shot at

home. Sleek espresso machines often come with a heftyprice tag, so add one to your wish list and look forwardto brunches and after-dinner aperitifs with happilycaffeinated guests.

Registry splurgesDon’t shy away from those high-ticket items because youthink no one will buy them or you’ll never break them out.

The biggest trend in wedding photography? Better, faster results.“At the end of the evening, we present the couple with a brand-newiPod touch – loaded with fully edited and retouched images –charged and ready to go,” says Brian Dorsey of Brian Dorsey Studiosin New York City. You can also showcase completely edited weddingimages on a high-definition screen during the reception.

Creative Engagement ShootsCouples are opting for more adventurous photos – set in the

diner booth where they first met or on a roller coaster. Brian DorseyStudios prints the photos in a book format so friends and guests cansign it like a yearbook.

Return to StyleDesign your wedding album like a storybook with flip-outs,

winged pages and invisible seams. Digital technology lets you getcreative with image bleeds and spreads. Every page will look unique.

Special EntertainmentRent a photo booth or set up a self-portrait studio.

Delightfully random moments will be caught on film since gueststend to be more natural when they’re working the camera with ahandheld clicker.

Textured PhotographsGive your photos a textured feel by layering two different images.

The effect varies with every image; some look almost like paintingswhile other shots offer a greater complexity.

The 3-D Photo Montage ShowIn the latest reception montage shows, still images are digitally

manipulated to appear three-dimensional; special effects and musiccan be added as well.

Wedding TrailersPicture a roaring epic movie score,

special editing effects – even a voiceover.“The trailer has a more intense style thana highlight reel,” says Adam Forgione, owner of Pennylane Productions inCommack, N.Y. “It’s a teaser to showfamily and friends while waiting for yourfull-length video.”

The Making of the WeddingThis documentary-style wedding

video includes interview clips from thebride and groom along with their post-wedding commentary.

Trash the DressFor fun (and to let off steam from the

planning stages), consider a “Trash theDress” video. Brides jump in mud or ripthe dress to shreds with their friends. While it’s not necessary memorabilia, itcould be one of your favorite keepsakes.
