Principles of Arthroscopy for Small Animal PractitionersWednesday 30th and Thursday 31st October 2019This course will introduce and develop arthroscopic surgery skills aimed at practicing veterinarians, specialist trainees, and surgical specialists. Through a mixture of lectures, case discussions, and cadaver workshops, participants will gain a sound understanding of arthroscopic surgery as it applies to the companion animal. No prior arthroscopic training is required.

Lectures will focus on the instrumentation required for arthroscopy, the principles of joint entry and triangulation, and diseases of the elbow, shoulder, and stifle that may be treated with arthroscopy. Intensive cadaver workshops will allow practice of arthroscopic surgery of the elbow and shoulder joints with instruction and guidance from experts in the field.

Small Animal Advanced Arthroscopy – Stifle JointFriday 1st and Saturday 2nd November 2019This course will introduce participants to diagnostic arthroscopy of the stifle joint in the dog. The fundamentals of stifle arthroscopy and meniscal inspection will be taught with a mixture of lectures and case discussions, and intensive cadaver workshops will allow practical exposure under the instruction and guidance from experts in the field.

Prior completion of the Principles of Arthroscopy for Small Animal Practitioners course is required.

Dr Ulrich RytzDr. med. vet., Dipl. ECVS

Dr Uli Rytz is a Professor in small animal surgery at the University of Bern in Switzerland. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and did his residency training at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA.

He returned to Bern in 1997 and since then has developed an international reputation in minimally invasive surgery, particularly in the fields of arthroscopy, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.

Uli is a gifted teacher and member of the arthroscopy experts group teaching minimally invasive surgery internationally.

Associate Professor Mark GlydeBVSc, MANZCVS, MVS, HDipUTL, Dip ECVS

Mark is an Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery at Murdoch and leads Murdoch¹s busy orthopaedic and neurosurgery referral service. He is a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery, a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, holds a Masters degree in Veterinary Surgery and is an Australian, European and RCVS recognised specialist surgeon.

Mark is an internationally recognised and awarded teacher. He provides continuing education to veterinarians nationally and internationally and presents courses in Small Animal Orthopaedics in Europe, UK, USA, Latin America, throughout Asia and Australia.

Dr. Mark Newman BVSc, MVS, MANZVCS, Dip ECVS

Mark is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and a registered specialist in small animal surgery. Mark is currently in private referral practice at Sydney Veterinary Emergency and Specialists, having spent four years as a lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at Murdoch University prior to this. Mark has an interest in minimally invasive surgery, in particular arthroscopy and minimally invasive osteosynthesis.Mark enjoys teaching the new generation of veterinarians and specialists, and is an adjunct senior lecturer at Murdoch University, a tutor in the Centre for Veterinary Education surgery course, and a faculty member of AOVET. Mark is also an active member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and is a regular examiner at both the membership and fellowship level.
