Elia Board: resignation of directors representing Electrabel

arrival of 3 new directors Electrabel's sale to Publi-T of its 12.5% stake in Elia (as announced on 30 March) took place on 11 May 2010. That leaves Electrabel with an 11.85% shareholding in Elia, which it has said it wants to sell before, during or after Elia's planned capital increase. As a result of the sale, the directors representing Electrabel - Jacqueline Boucher, Sophie Dutordoir and Ronnie Belmans, who has served as chairman of the Board since Elia was founded in 2001 – tendered their resignation at the end of the Board meeting held immediately after the Elia annual general meeting. They will be replaced by three new directors: - Jennifer Debatisse, in charge of strategy and organisation at Sibelga, operator of the distribution grid for the Brussels Capital Region; - Dominique Offergeld, Chief Financial Officer at Ores, operator of the gas and electricity grids in Wallonia; - Leen Van den Neste, member of the Arco management committee. Speaking on behalf of the Board, Francis Vermeiren, Vice Chairman of Elia, welcomed the new directors. He also thanked the outgoing directors and praised Ronnie Belmans for his fine work as chairman of the Board of Elia since its creation as the independent operator of the electricity transmission grid, thanks in particular to his in-depth knowledge of the sector and business. Ronnie Belmans will continue to contribute his expertise to Elia in his new position as honorary chairman of the Board. Until further notice, the Board of Directors will be chaired by Luc Van Nevel, an independent director. As a reminder, the Elia Board has 12 members, 6 of whom are independent. About Elia Elia is the Belgian transmission system operator, transmitting electricity from producers to distribution system operators and major industrial users. Elia is also responsible for importing and exporting electricity from and to neighbouring countries. Elia owns the entire Belgian very-high-voltage grid (150 to 380 kV) and around 94% (ownership and user rights) of the Belgian high-voltage grid (30 to 70 kV).
